With Halloween Horror Nights just around the corner the announcements are coming thick and fast! This year HHN29 is looking stacked with 10 houses, 5 scare zone and 2 shows all kicking off from 6th September until the 2nd November.
Today Universal confirm House of 1000 corpses, come face-to-face with the psychotic Firefly family and their collection of blood and gore. Watch “The Legend of Doctor Satan” come to life right before your eyes. Keep a lookout for the latest addition to Captain Spaulding’s Museum of Monsters and Madmen, Fish Boy! And if you’re lucky, you’ll escape the house as fast as a rabbit, minus the fluffy bunny costume and tragic ending.
Halloween Horror Nights this year looks like it’s going to be an absolute cracker. Houses already confirmed are Stranger Things, Nightingales, Universal Monsters, Depths of Fear, Yeti Terror of the Yukon, Ghostbusters, Us and Graveyard games but what about scare zones I hear you call… Well Universal confirmed them today.
Zombieland Double Tap
It’s time to brush up on those rules of survival. Based on the hit film and its upcoming sequel, this scare zone puts you in the middle of the United States of Zombieland. The infection has spread and bloodthirsty zombies are everywhere. The most important rule to remember: Always double tap.
Rob Zombie Hellbilly Deluxe
You know his music, now it’s time to live it. Step into the heavy metal horror of Rob Zombie’s music and imagery in this pulse-pounding scare zone. From otherworldly beings to brutal maniacs, you’ll come face-to-face with his twisted creations as the music cranks to a frenzy.
An 80s-inspired arcade has taken over Avenue of the Stars. At first glance, you may think it’s a party. However, you quickly learn that “Game Over” means a permanent end for you. A gang of neon slashers are out to play and this is one game you won’t want to lose.
Beauty is pain. Literally. In the streets of Hollywood, your flesh becomes the canvas as blade-wielding artists slice up willing participants into horrific living works of art. Here, going under the knife takes on a whole other meaning.
We’re all familiar with the brutal Viking warriors. It’s terrifying enough thinking about facing them alive. Now picture facing them as the undead. They have risen and laid siege to Central Park with an onslaught of gore. Bloodlust never dies.
Universal also confirmed that Academy of Villains will be returning this year – Academy of Villains returns in an epic experiment of mind and body. Man’s true nature is dragged out into the dark, gothic streets of anarchy. This wickedly talented group of artists is back for an all-new performance featuring a killer mix of visionary dance and extraordinary theatrics.
We were beginning to think Universal had completely forgotten about HHN29 with all of their new park news! But luckily they haven’t and today they have announced a new house to add to the already terrifying line up..
JORDAN PEELE’S BLOCKBUSTER HIT ‘US’ COMES TO LIFE IN TERRIFYING NEW HAUNTED HOUSE AT HALLOWEEN HORROR NIGHTS
Here’s what Universal had to say about the house..
‘Are you ready to enter the shocking reality of Academy Award-winning filmmaker Jordan Peele and Universal Pictures’ global horror hit Us?
In this new haunted house, you will walk through the Wilson family beach house and Santa Cruz Pier, where you might spot a familiar character outside of the Fun House. You’ll also venture through the unnerving tunnels that stretch for miles deep below America and come face-to-face with “The Tethered” – a group of terrifying doppelgängers of every living man, woman and child in the country. You’ll quickly discover that you are your own worst enemy.
Doesn’t sound like much of a ‘fun house’ to me.. :/
Follow in the footsteps of Adelaide Wilson as she experiences a horrifying and traumatic encounter with her tethered double, Red. Watch her face off with her menacing mirror image in a deadly dance with a fatal ending.
As you venture deeper through the haunted house, you will be transported to modern-day, and witness “The Tethered” rise-up from their underground labyrinth, ready to take on their privileged upperworld counterparts – determined to enact their plan of murder and revenge.
Prepare to run for your life, as there is no escaping yourself.’
This sounds, in a few words.. Utterly bloody terrifying!!! :O Saying that, this sounds like the type of house that will have me screaming, jumping, laughing and crying all in one!
check out the video.. beware it’s not for the faint hearted!
Don’t forget this year is bigger than ever with 10 houses, 5 scare zones and 2 live shows!
If you’ve forgotten all of the houses that have been announced so far, here is a re-cap:
Great news at OAT Towers today we finally completed that pesky crossword we’ve been working on!! Oh and we’ve been nominated for a Travolution Award… Yey!!!
Yep we’ve been nominated under the best for experiences category which covers tours and attractions. This latest nomination represents our 7th nomination in the these awards but we’re yet to hit the giddy heights of actually winning. 7th time lucky? Hey its the taking part that counts.

Fingers crossed we’ll be lifting the trophy in November.
We love a good patent here at OAT towers and blooloop.com have found a really good one.
So both these patents appear to be tower rides, one an interactive ride and one with a rotating lift system. Lets take a look…
Interactive Tower Ride
The interactive tower appears to be made up of 4 towers each with one ride vehicle, according to the images it looks like they would seat up to 16 people at a time.
From the details it looks like it will also have interactive features with passengers having some control over the vehicles motion and what they see. The patent mentions AR, VR, projection and SFX, the patent goes on to state it will be an “immersive environment with which the riders may interact”.
There is also the suggestion that the ride will have gaming elements, the pic above seems to show targets above each ride vehicle. Will the ride move based on if the target is struck?
Rotating lift and stacked room
The second patent discovered by blooloop.com shows a “a plurality of rooms stacked atop one another”. The ride vehicle are able to enter these rooms, rotate, twist and ascend/descend the tower.
Interactive elements are all the rage at the moment and this patent seems to suggest that the ride vehicle can take different courses that could make every ride and experience unique.
What IP could this be for?
Well it could just be Universal collecting patents, but with a new park just announced every patent will obviously come under a bit of scrutiny. So with that in mind I’ll take a wild guess at what they could be for
Interactive Tower – Could this be Nintendo based? The gaming element definitely points towards that but I’m finding it hard to match a specific IP. Could this be the Mario cart ride? With the tower giving the impression of big jumps and drops while driving on multiple levels?
Rotating lift and stacked rooms – This feels like a ride that will tell a story, for years there have been rumours that Universal want to include their Monsters IP in a land. Could this be the main attraction for it? Moving into multiple rooms that each has its own Universal Monster, maybe a Dracula room, or a Wolfman room…
On Monday Abby and Gavin were invited to a secret event in London to discuss all things Halloween Horror Nights with Patrick Braillard, Creative Development Show Director and Writer at Universal Orlando.
Here’s what happened;
We’d like to thank Patrick for the opportunity to interview him and the energy he brought even though he was horribly jet lagged.
Another year, another nomination at the prestigious British Travel Awards. So say its the equivalent of the Oscars, I say its bigger than that. So you’ll forgive us if we’re a little giddy.
This nomination represents our 7th Nomination in a row and we’re hopeful that the 7th times the charm as we’ve been 2nd twice and 3rd once… can we claim that all important 1st place?

It seems a long time since we last got a little taste of what this years Halloween Horror Nights will bring us, so I was delighted to be informed that today Universal have confirmed that Yeti: Terror of the Yukon is the next house to be revealed.
Here’s what we can expect;
Deep in the remote tundra of the Yukon, loggers and trappers seek refuge from the frigid grip of an arctic blizzard. But out in the darkness, a terror lurks far more dangerous than the deluge of snow and ice. These unfortunate souls have intruded into a territory that is haunted by their worst nightmares. Enter a logging camp that’s been torn apart, floors caked with snow, bones and gore. Right outside, screams are frozen on the faces of those who fled the towering monsters only to succumb to the elements. But there is no escape from beasts as brutal as the winter.
Just when you thought the only thing to fear was the elements, an icy terror will descend over you. Cringe at the trail of blood leading to caves none have lived to see. As you enter the labyrinth of caves, you’ll hear the screaming echoes of those who couldn’t escape the inevitable. If you survive long enough to see the end, you’re likely to find the remains of those who came before you and meet their same demise. You’re in Yeti territory now. They’re stone cold vicious and will stop at nothing for a taste of blood. If the cold doesn’t get you, they will.
So the annual theme park attendance figures are in and there has been an increase in most regions and attraction types. Check this out…
Attendance at themed attractions at the major operators has exceeded half a billion visits for the first time in history. This is equivalent to almost 7% of the world population. And not only that, but this number keeps growing. Just five years ago, the market capture of the industry was only 5% of the global population.
In Orlando we saw the opening of Toy Story Land and to be honest it wasn’t really a massive year for new attractions in the ‘Theme Park Capital’ of the world but the increase we can see may be to do with people choosing to let the crowds die down a bit at the likes of Pandora: The World of Avatar and Volcano Bay. Below it’s easy to see that Walt Disney World is still the largest theme park group in the World welcoming 157,311,000 visitors which is around 7 million more than the previous year! All of the other Theme Park Groups that feature in Orlando (see the green stars) are in the same position as last year but all have an increased attendance. The most impressive of all is definitely SeaWorld Parks and Entertainment with an 8.6% increase!
Top 25 Theme Parks Worldwide
As we can see the standings are pretty similar to the previous years with the exception of Universal Studios moving down one place from 10th in 2017 to 11th for 2018. With the opening of Galaxy’s Edge at Hollywood Studios this year (2019) i’m confident the attendance will soar and it will move up at least one place – especially with Toy Story Land still being new too! Hopefully we will see Islands of Adventure move up the charts too with the new potter coaster due to open next month – what do you think?
Water Park Attendance
Last year due to the opening of Volcano Bay having an impact i said ‘In my opinion, Volcano Bay has smashed it!! Considering they only opened on the 25th May 2017 they have come in at 6th in the standings – Go Universal!!’ Considering the above standings now include a full year i’m pretty shocked to see them still at 6th! Although they did have the biggest increase at 15%! On the plus side, Blizzard Beach And Aquatica have both moved up a space!
Top Parks in North America
Both SeaWorld and Busch Gardens have moved up a space in these standings. We can see that Pandora is still having a massive impact on Animal Kingdom with a 10% increase and even better, SeaWorld is showing a 16% increase.
This year also showed strong and steady business volume through most regions and attraction types. In an unusual alignment, theme park attendance grew by roughly 4% in all major markets. Waterparks’ attendance rose at 2.5% globally, with North America at 5.8% and EMEA showing strong growth of 6.7%. We have observed a number of phenomena that have led to this and other strong years’ performance in the business. These include the addition of second gates, the continued leveraging of blockbuster IP’s, and the building of resort hotels adjacent to park properties.
Honorable mentions are in order this year for a number of players including: SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment which turned around from a 5% drop last year to an almost 9% increase this year.
So with Galaxy’s Edge, new Potter coaster and many more new attractions such as Tigris, Mickey and Minnies runaway railway, Skyliners, Sesame Street, LEGO Movie World and many more opening in 2019 next years report may look a little different! :p
