Festive Treats

Hey Thrill Seekers,

Hooray for all you sweet addicts like myself. It’s the most wonderful time of the year and the sweetest too! This is one of my favourite times to visit the parks just so I can have some of their festive season sweet treats.

Orlando theme parks have some pretty amazing chefs and bakers who have been working overtime to bring you their best Christmas treats, and the result is mouthwatering!

Here’s just a few mouthwatering treats I know of and where to find them. If you’re lucky enough to be there over the Christmas period make sure you go try them, your taste buds will most certainly be satisfied.

Holiday Cake Pops at Goofy’s Candy Company – Goofy’s Candy Company in Downtown Disney is always a great place to grab something sweet. Guests can indulge in one of our favourite treats in Disney: cake pops. These mini bites of cake are decorated with either a Santa Mickey hat or as a bright blue snowflake. You can’t go wrong with a cake pop so whichever you choose your sweet tooth will be impressed.

Gingerbread Cupcakes at Hollywood Studios – Not every one is a fan of gingerbread but when decorated with traditional red and green sprinkles and a Mickey Mouse hat what is not to like. Trust me, your taste buds will smile as they are taken over by gingerbread and cream cheese icing. Mmm Yummy!

Candy Cane Fudge at SeaWorld Orlando – This I must say is one of the prettiest desserts I have ever come across, it’s that pretty you almost don’t want to eat it…..BUT do! This treat has a soft gooey centre like fudge with a hard, crunchy peppermint top.

If it’s all too much for your tummy’s you can always try out the only drink on our festive treat list.

Dutch Chocolate Grasshopper at Epcot – The Dutch Chocolate Grasshopper at Epcot is a rich chocolate ice cream drink with a splash of peppermint schnapps and a sprinkling of crushed candy canes. It’s both refreshing and mouthwatering.

It is safe to say the parks do not and will not disappoint with their Christmas treats.

SeaWorld And Aquatica Introduce New Photo Entry System

Hey Thrill Seekers,

You stroll up, you scan your Orlando Attraction Tickets gate ready ticket, you pop your finger in the biometric scanner and in you go…

Well not anymore, in a move to speed up the admission process and eliminate the potential for theft by protecting the ticket from being used by another person SeaWorld and Aquatica are introducing a new photo entry system.

This will involve guests having their picture taken at the entry gates and it, in turn being linked to the unique barcode on their admission ticket. The photo will then appear on all following visits to the parks upon presenting their ticket for entry. This will replace the finger print scan previously used.

seaworld entry

Why the change to a new process?
This new process will allow our Ambassadors to focus  more on our guests’ arrival experience by speeding up  the entry time into the park. A smoother process and
shorter wait equals more time for our guests to enjoy  the park.

How does this new process work?
You will start to see our front gate Ambassadors using new handheld devices to scan tickets and Passes. Upon  the guest’s fist visit, a photo will be taken and stored
for future visits. We request no hats or sunglasses be  worn for accurate identification. This new entry system  will replace the process that required use of the guest’s  index finger.

Which tickets or Passes require the photo?
Photos are required for all Annual Passes, Fun Cards,  and multi-day tickets. Photos are not currently required  for single-day tickets.

Why is a photo required?
The photo is used to verify the guest with their ticket  product, which will eliminate the potential for theft by  protecting your Annual Pass or ticket from being used  by another person.

Does my child need to have their photo taken?
Parent permission is needed for our team to take your  child’s photo. Your child’s photo would be stored locally  and retrieved only upon park entry. If you do not wish to  have your child’s photo taken please inform our team.

What if I decline having my photo taken?
You can choose to bypass having your photo taken.  Instead, you would need to show a photo ID each time  you enter the park. Guests under the age of 14 do not  need to present a photo ID.

Will the photo be printed on my Pass?
No. The photo will be used for internal use only and is  designed to verify the Pass Member or multi-day ticket  holder when they enter the park. It will not require a  new Pass or ticket to be printed.

When will this change take place?
The transition will occur late 2016 through early 2017.

SeaWorld’s Top Attractions 2016

Hey Thrill Seekers,

SeaWorld is renowned for its hugely thrilling coasters as well as its incredible shows so there’s a lot of competition within this park. Storming in at first place is the unique Manta.

Manta is a one of a kind coaster on which you will experience a impressive amount of G’s! You’ll glide like a Manta Ray experience inverted nosedives, loops, twists and turns all whilst laying flat on your back , parallel to the track. You will sometimes be above the track and sometimes below as you continue to switch orientation throughout the whole ride.

It’s known to be one of the smoothest tracks in the world and totally different to your every day coaster which is why I think it has been voted as the top attraction at SeaWorld this year!

Second Place: Mako – Its Orlando’s tallest, fastest and longest coaster and is named after one of the oceans fastest sharks, Mako is our offices favourite coaster at SeaWorld.

Third Place: Kraken – This is Orlando’s only floorless roller coaster and is based on a underwater mythological beast. Your feet will dangle as you speed your way around this enthralling track.

kraken VR

Fourth: One Ocean – Watch majestic killer whales tell a story and be careful if you opt to sit in the splash zone you will get VERY wet!!

Fifth: Dolphins Up-Close Tour – This hands on experience lasts around 60 minutes and allows you to interact with the beautiful bottlenose dolphins and even learn some of the hand signals used to communicate with them!

Planning your day at SeaWorld

Hey Thrill Seekers.

Arranging a day out with the family can be stressful, and when it’s a different country with some of the World’s most popular theme parks you may feel you need that extra little bit of help to plan your day, so I’m here to help you.

SeaWorld is on Central Florida Parkway between International Drive and Sea World Drive. If you are driving and using a GPS system the address is 7007 SeaWorld Dr, Orlando, FL, 32821.

So now you know where your heading to, what will you need? It’s always a given something will be forgotten so write yourself a list, Camera? check, Sunscreen? check, tickets? check, photo ID? check, these are some of the main things you will need for your day.

Photo ID should be taken to all parks, they do random spot checks and if you don’t have it you can be refused entry which can be quite embarrassing, even more embarrassing than having to show your passport or driving license photo :-). Minors (under 18’s) will not be required to provide photo ID so you don’t have to worry about taking your child’s passport to the parks.

Always take your ticket, if for any reason it is that one thing you do forget then don’t panic. We issue these as printable PDF files so these can be emailed to you. If you want these emailed before you go as well as in the post just give us a shout we’re happy to do this for you.

SeaWorld EZTicket

Pictures are a must at SeaWorld, I think I took over 200 in one day. I took them on my cell phone to save carrying round a large camera. I was a little worried in case I drained my battery but SeaWorld have cell phone charging stations in the park located at Shamu’s Happy Harbor and Voyagers smokehouse. These are so handy and they only cost $3 for two hours of juice, amazing….. I would spend more on electricity at home to charge my cell phone for two hours.

Talking of juice it is so important to keep yourself hydrated. SeaWorld have restaurants and concession stands located conveniently throughout the park. It will be best to buy food and drink whilst in the park. SeaWorld has quite a strict food and beveredge policy. Large hard or soft coolers, glass containers, food, drinks and picnic lunches may not be taken into the park. Guests with special diets, baby formula or baby food may bring their items into the park.

I don’t know about you, but queueing is one of my least favourite things, so I booked a SeaWorld Quick Queue ticket before I went, this saved so much time so I had more time to explore the rest of the park.

Remember guys, you’ll be doing lots of walking so wear your most comfortable shoes, and keep yourself topped up with suncream when queuing for rides as well as walking around the park.

Hope you enjoy your time at SeaWorld as much as I did.

My top 5 places to eat at the parks

Hey Thrill Seekers,

Visiting Orlando can be overwhelming at the best of times. How much money you need, where to go, what to see, what to eat..

Here at OAT towers we try to make it as easy as possible to help you prepare for your holiday of a lifetime so here I am putting our experience to good use. I’ve gone round a few of the minions in our offices to find their favourite restaurants around the parks to give you your top 5.

My favourite restaurant has got to be the Sharks Underwater Grill at SeaWorld. It’s not often you get to enjoy your meal while gazing at the sharks swimming past you. Not only that, but you can go downstairs and walk through the aquarium with the sharks swimming above you. It truly is amazing!

Karl our CTO says his favourite restaurant is The Bubba Gump Shrimp Co at Universal’s CityWalk which I hear nothing but good things about. If you’re a fan of Forrest Gump, you’re a fan of Bubba Shrimp! It’s a family friendly, worldwide restaurant with a great atmosphere, like any restaurant on CityWalk.

Jess can’t get enough of the Rainforest Cafe located at Disney’s Animal Kingdom park and Disney Springs. If you’re looking for something ‘different’ the Rainforest cafe is definitely a place to try. Enjoy your meal while surrounded by tropical animals and wait for your surprises throughout the evening. I can guarantee you won’t be bored!

The Leaky Cauldron in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, Diagon Alley at Universal Studios is our CEO, Gavin’s favourite restaurant. I think this may be something to do with his beard…he thinks he’s a wizard! I guess there really is no place like home seeing as the Leaky Cauldron serves traditional British meals. Yum!

Kelly is always competing with Lauren about who’s the biggest Disney fan (although I think it’s definitely Lauren) so she has chosen the Be Our Guest restaurant in FantasyLand at Disney’s Magic Kingdom. If you want to feel like royalty, this is where you want to go for your meal. It is absolutely stunning and the attention to detail is unreal.

So there’s a few ideas of where to go to eat. Don’t forget there are so many restaurants that you will never get to visit all of them in one trip so make sure you pick carefully!

Lauren Vs Mako at SeaWorld Orlando

Hey Thrill Seekers,

So I know I’ve been back a while now, but trying to get 5 minutes to tell you about my FAM trip has proven to be more difficult than I thought! I’ve decided to start off with my review of Mako at SeaWorld.

Mako is now my favourite ride ever. This is the first time I’ve been on a hypercoaster as there are only a few in the whole world,  and my gosh it was amazing.

Representing a Shark chasing his prey along the 4,760 ft track at 73mph, you’ll feel like you’re floating. (Well I did sitting in the middle of the coaster). Rumour has it the front feels the fastest! Standing at 200 feet tall, Mako is the tallest, fastest roller coaster in Orlando so it’s definitely one for the thrill seekers.

You’re probably thinking ‘what is a hypercoaster?’ A hypercoaster is a type of coaster that is known for high speeds and steep drops creating a feeling of weightlessness throughout the ride. As you reach the crest of each hill along the tracks, you will feel yourself floating out of your seat, hence the feeling of weightlessness.

Some roller coasters can be quite rough and rickety, maybe even make you feel like you’ve got a headache when you get off; Mako on the other hand is so smooth that you barely feel where the track has been joined together – unreal!

Not only have SeaWorld built in Mako the coaster, they’ve redesigned the whole area surrounding it fully themed to sharks. There is so many more educational activities about sharks as well as the shark encounter and shark interaction pool.

In case you haven’t already realised, I wasn’t joking when I said Mako is now my favourite coaster. You just can’t beat it! I was lucky enough to ride the coaster twice in a row and it’s fair to say that I had so much adrenaline running through my body afterwards! If you haven’t already, you have to try it out. Don’t be put off by the lap bars!

SeaWorld Orlando Creates One-of-a-Kind Wetsuit for Penguin

Hey Thrill Seekers,

I think I may just have stumbled upon the worlds most adorable penguin…

Move over Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid there’s a new model in town and yep, that’s right, she’s a penguin! This cute little Adelie penguin who goes by the name of Wonder Twin resides in Antarctica, Empire of the Penguins at SeaWorld Orlando and has her own custom made wetsuit. No.. SeaWorld haven’t gone mad, it’s actually a very endearing story.

SeaWorld staff recently noticed that Wonder Twin had begun to lose some of her feathers – feather loss can happen to penguins in their natural habitat and wild populations. It can even cause harm to the penguins but SeaWorld won’t allow this to happen – not under their watch!

Penguins need their feathers to help stop masses of water reaching their skin and damaging it. Their feathers are short, broad and very close together.. about 100 feathers per square inch to be precise!! Penguins also need their feather for insulating purposes.

Wonder Twin started to have problems regulating her body temperature due to losing her feathers and this is where SeaWorld’s Aviculture team (the team that focuses on the keeping and rearing of birds) stepped in with a bit of help from the costume department! SeaWorld’s park release said ‘“SeaWorld’s aviculture team set out to assist her and created a wetsuit to mimic her former coat of feathers. The coat was designed and sewn by SeaWorld’s wardrobe department and custom fit just for her.”’ It just gets cuter doesn’t it?!

If this isn’t already the cutest thing you’ve heard all year then please take a look at these photos of Wonder Twin. Awwwwwwww.

The special wetsuit works to regulate her body temperature and acts exactly as her feathers would against the cold water and low temperatures.

Wonder Twin is able to carry on living a carefree life (even though she may be the fashion envy of her fellow flockmates) and continues to eat, sleep and swim alongside the other penguins all whilst looking pretty sassy doing it.

This is yet another great example of how SeaWorld Orlando continue to care for all of the animals inside their park as well as ensuring they look wonderful at the same time.

Kraken Set To Be The First VR Coaster In Florida

Hey Thrill Seekers,

We’re not one’s for burying the lead, so the headline pretty much says it all! Today SeaWorld Orlando will announce that their awesome coaster Kraken will become the first coaster in Florida to have a permanent virtual reality experience.

kraken VR

Scheduled for the summer of 2017 Kraken will be fitted with headsets that will plunge the rider into the depths of the sea where they will encounter mythical (obviously a Kraken) and prehistoric beasts.

Brian Morrow, SeaWorld Parks and Entertainment Vice President of theme park experience design told the Orlando Sentinel;

We’re developing sort of our own technology on how we’re going to pull this off, It’s nothing that you’ve seen from other parks.

Riders will be given the option of using the headset or not, which will cover not only the visitors eyes but also their ears.  Music specially composed for the ride will accompany riders and SeaWorld hope this along with the VR experience will offer a new ride perspective. SeaWorld wouldn’t comment yet on whether the images will be 3-D.

SeaWorld will also be revealing a new night time show called Electric Ocean, which will play at the Bayside Theatre. The show will feature music, fountains, bioluminescent lighting and fireworks. They will also confirm that their Dolphin Nursery will also receive a makeover. All these changes are expected for the summer of 2107.

We’ll keep you updated if SeaWorld release anything further.
