Morning Thrill Seekers,
We’ve known for some time but have been sworn to secrecy but finally SeaWorld Orlando have given us the all clear to confirm that their new attraction Antarctica: Empire of the Penguin will officially open on the 24th May 2013.
SeaWorld reports that construction is bang on schedule and soft launches of the new attraction will occur during the month of May.
Accordin g to SeaWorld officials, Antarctica: Empire of the Penguin will transport families into a rarely seen, icy world. They’ll feel the majestic grandeur of the South Pole and see it through the penguins’ eyes on an exhilarating, first-of-its-kind family ride.
During a tour for members of the media yesterday, creative director Brian Morrow stated that the Antarctica project was the biggest SeaWorld had ever undertaken! He went on to explain that the new area will include a mobile simulator ride that follows a penguin’s journey ending with an exhibit with penguins walking “side by side” with guests and a 20-foot-deep underwater viewing area that shows off the animals’ aquatic agility.
The Orlando Sentinel reported that the ride’s entrance will be beneath a rock-and-snow representation of a young penguin and its mother. This can be seen peeking above the construction walls in the theme park.
Also in the area: a themed restaurant, gift shop and an educational area. The construction basically is on the site of the former Penguin Encounter attraction.
