Interview with Nigel McShine-Jones Trade Sales Manager UK, Ireland & Europe LEGOLAND® FLORIDA

Name: Nigel McShine-Jones (nickname Choonz)

Who do you work for? LEGOLAND Florida

What’s been the highlight of the year  (2012) for your company? Opening! We are Florida’s newest Theme Park. We will be celebrating our 1st birthday in October.

What can we expect from your company in 2013? We have a major new expansion of a whole new section of the park. Watch this space for more new details.

Jamie: Nigel was referring to this.

Favourite Theme Park?: LEGOLAND Florida of course! However I do love Discovery Cove.

Favourite Theme Park ride and why?: Well I’m a little too old (and big!) for the rides at LEGOLAND Florida so I’d have to say Spider Man at Universal. The 4d experience and graphics are amazing and also because I loved Spider-Man as a kid.

Favourite Water Park and why?: I actually haven’t been to many water parks, so I’ll pass on this one.

Best Theme Park food?: It has to be our Granny Apple Fries at LEGOLAND Florida. Granny Smith apples chopped into fries dipped in a special coating, flash fried and served a with a big dollop of cream. Absolutely delicious and also one of your five a day! oh and I do also have to mention Doc Brown’s Chicken at Universal Studios Hollywood. Better than finger lickin’!

Best Theme Park tip?: If you’re visiting LEGOLAND Florida bring along your least favourite mini figure and you can trade it for your favourite one, if you spot a member of staff wearing it on their badge in the park. If you ask politely, they have to say yes!

Best souvenir you’ve ever got from a park?: LEGO Technic Monster Truck. I’m a born again LEGO addict.

Longest you’ve queued for a ride?: 60 minutes! It was worth it though.

If you could make your own ride, what would it be?: A roller coaster that doesn’t frighten the bejesus out of me!

What’s it like working with Really like working with these guys and I look forward to working with them even more closely in the future.

A big thank you to Choonz for taking time out of his busy schedule to speak to us….

LEGOLAND Florida Announce Further Expansion

The new land will include an interactive water ride called “the Quest for Chi” which looks similar to their offering in California. LEGOLAND Florida will also show an exclusive new movie called “Lego Chima 4D Movie Xperience.”

LEGOLAND Florida is the first park to have a dedicated Chima land and has hooked up with Cartoon Network who will be airing an animated TV series based on the characters.

Legoland Florida General Manager Adrian Jones said;

This is the first time a theme park has invested in a major expansion concurrently with the rollout of a new brand and product line, and it was an easy decision based on how well Lego Legends of Chima has been received by children and those who are young at heart around the world

The new area is set to open in the summer, so we can expect to see further developments as they break.

LEGOLAND Florida announce date for water park to open!

Back in January we blogged about LEGOLAND’s plans to open an exciting new water park at the LEGOLAND theme park in Florida. Now it seems that those plans have been going swimmingly (hah! see what I did there?…oh never mind) The Water Park is now scheduled to open on the 26th May 2012.

The water park itself is incorporated into the main part of LEGOLAND and looks like its shaping up to be one of the stars of the summer. Visitors will be able to experience the Lazy River, water slides and other features at an additional cost on top of the regular park entrance fees. There is currently no plans for a ‘water park only’ option.

First Look at LEGOLAND Florida’s new water park

Splash Island – once one of Florida’s hidden gems is now just a disused dried up water park. But not for long! LEGOLAND Florida is now in the process of turning this shell of a park into a happy place again. In order to transform this once popular water park its wave pool, lazy river and assorted slides had to be drained in order to check their condition.

The good news is General Manager Adrian Jones said “The condition of the infrastructure has actually surprised us how good it is considering its been idle for the last 2 years” This has given LEGOLAND a jump start on creating the new water park which should be up and running in time for peak season this summer. An exact opening date is expected within the next few weeks – we’ll keep you posted when we know more! However, until then check out a few images of its current state along with an artists impression of what’s to come 🙂
