Disney Announce Opening Dates

Hey Thrill Seekers,

Today Disney treated us to a few dates for our diaries. So lets get stuck in.

Possibly the most exciting being confirmation that the Disney Frozen attraction at Epcot will officially open on the 21st June.

Frozen ever after, is a boat ride around Arendelle, guests will see the Summer Snow Day celebration, Troll Valley, North Mountain, Elsa’s Ice Palace and other sights.

I like this one, Disney will be bringing Soarin’ back for a limited time to give it a proper send off. From May 27th until June 26th visitors at Epcot will be able to ride the original version before its updated to Soarin’ Around the World.

Star Wars

Disney also confirmed that the new fireworks show ‘Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular’  will debut on June 17 at Hollywood Studios. This night time spectacular will be the most elaborate fireworks display in the park’s history.

Disney state that the show will combine fireworks, pyrotechnics, special effects and video projections upon various building in the park. Proposed scenes include the twin suns of Tatooine, a field of battle droids, the trench of the Death Star, Starkiller Base and other Star Wars destinations.

The show which will be put to music from the film franchise will feature a tower of fire and spotlight beams which will create the image of a lightsaber in the sky.

Mickey’s Royal Friendship Faire

Mickey’s Royal Friendship Faire is a stage show at Cinderella Castle, it will debut at Magic Kingdom on June 17th!

In “Mickey’s Royal Friendship Faire,” Mickey and his troupe of Merry Makers have been preparing to host a joyous festival and have ventured far and wide to invite friends from other lands to join their celebration. From the Land of the Bewitching Bayous, Goofy has invited Tiana, Naveen and Louis to add a little spice of New Orleans jazz to the party. From the Land of the Enchanted Woods, Donald Duck brings some new friends he met at the Snuggly Duckling, and Daisy introduces us to her special guests, Rapunzel and Flynn Rider. Finally, Mickey shares a surprise with Minnie, as he has traveled to the Land of the Mystic Mountains to invite Olaf, Anna and Elsa, who contributes a blast of her icy magic. It all culminates in a grand dance, as the Merry Makers invite all their special guests to join in the fun on this special day in Magic Kingdom Park!

Which of these are you most excited about visiting? The Star Wars fireworks displays looks amazing, I can’t wait to see this.

You can purchase Disney Passes from Orlando Attraction Tickets from as little as £154.00 (2 Day Child ticket).

Bob Iger Drops Some Star Wars, Epcot And Magic Updates

Hey Thrill Seekers,

On Thursday Disney CEO Bob Iger gave shareholders a glimpse into what their working on. He covered Star Wars, Epcot and the future of My Magic+.

During the shareholder meeting Mr Iger confirmed that ground would be broken on Disney’s most exciting project, Star Wars, next month. Still no official launch date but an estimate of 2018 might be pretty close to the mark.

Visitors to Disney’s Hollywood Studios may have already noticed that the clearing of the space required for the new land started last year with the closing of several attractions.

Iger was also asked about any plans for Epcot which some have said has been slightly neglected over the years, although Epcot will be gaining the new Frozen attraction, Frozen Ever After and new technology for Soarin’. Iger confirmed that Disney were planning a long term strategy for Epcot and stated;

There’s lots of great work going its to that thinking, but there’s nothing to announce as of right now

Disney spent an absolute fortune on My Magic Plus  but the parks are now reaping the rewards of the new technology with in park spending up and the access to additional visitor data which until this technology was introduced Disney could only speculate on. Iger confirmed its success and also stated that they were looking into ways to expand the technology and offer more for mobile users…

mymagic-If the last 5 years have been dominated by Universal (Harry Potter, Transformer’s, King Kong) it does appear that the mouse has taken off its gloves… and that means “Yey” for all of us.

Disney Reveal A Bit More About The Star Wars Experience Coming To Orlando

Hey Thrill Seekers,

Eeek! Excitement!!! Yesterday Han Solo himself, Harrison Ford, presented a segment on Disney’s 60 years of Disneyland TV show which revealed a little bit more of what we can expect from Star Wars Land!

The Star Wars Experience is a tie up between Disney’s Imagineers and Lucas films with the main objective to place you, the visitor, right in the middle of Star Wars. As Disney put it, imagine stepping inside the Millennium Falcon!

star wars 1Not only stepping inside, but actually piloting and firing the this legendary ship. We can definitely see this as a 3D dark ride similar to Transformers 3D at Universal Studios.

The next hint at a ride seemed to be when Disney stated

Imagine finding yourself in the middle of a battle between the resistance and the first order in a race against time

star wars 3

The clip seems to show a ride either similar to Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey or similar to the shoot ’em up style attractions like Men in Black.

Enter purposely made locations and immerse all your sense, meet Droids and Aliens, enter an other worldly Street market where you can sample foods and purchase goods.

star wars 6

For those looking to go up market you can also visit the planets’ best restaurant or for the adventurous head down to the Cantina.

star wars 8

Disney promise the Stories to be Epic and the locations breath taking!

Unfortunately we still have no idea of a release date but as Harrison Ford put it…. Its going to be AWESOME!

Han Solo To Reveal More About Star Wars Land

Hey Thrill Seekers,

On the 21st February at 8pm on the U.S. network ABC, Star War’s very own Han Solo, Harrison Ford will be dropping information about the proposed Star Wars Land coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Regular readers of the blog will remember D23 (Disney convention) where Disney CEO Bob Iger first revealed Disney will be adding Star War to their parks.

We are creating a jaw-dropping new world that represents our largest single-themed land expansion ever, these new lands at Disneyland and Walt Disney World will transport guests to a whole new ‘Star Wars’ planet.

The Star Wars land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios will have two signature attractions, including the ability to take the controls of one of the most recognizable ships in the galaxy, the Millennium Falcon, on a customised secret mission, and an epic Star Wars adventure that puts guests in the middle of a climactic battle.

We’re hoping Mr Ford releases some more information on the 21st… As soon as he does we’ll report it!

I don’t think I’ve ever been so excited for a new land!!! Like EVER.

Disney Confirm Star Wars Theme Park Attractions Will Be Based On The New Films

Hey Thrill Seekers,

When Bob Iger, Walt Disney’s Co. Chief speaks, generally people listen but when he talks about Star Wars everybody listens!

Yesterday speaking to Variety, Bob was asked about how Disney were going to use Star Wars within their parks. Disney famously purchased Lucas Films which included the rights to Star Wars for $4 billion in 2012 but have yet to add anything significant to their Theme Parks.

Mr Iger stated;

There will be a much larger ‘Star Wars’ presence in our parks globally, but we want to do this big, which takes time, and to do it right.

This is a significant statement from Iger regarding how seriously and protective they are of the brand, it would have been very easy to steam headfirst in to dedicated Star Wars Land based solely on the previous films but Disney have and are taking their time.

As with all projects including Avatar Land at Animal Kingdom which is said to be in the works, Disney’s Imagineers have full scope to bring these ip’s to life. Iger confirmed that they decided to hold back until Abrams had finished episode 8.

We couldn’t tell them what was new, I slowed it all down so what we come forward with will have a blend of the past, present and maybe the future. Now we have a sense of what’s in ‘Star Wars 8,’ and what some of the standalone films will have in them.

More details of what we can expect will probably coincide with the release of the new film due out next year… So not too long to wait.

Disney To Add Star Wars To Their Theme Parks

Hey Thrill Seekers,

I’m not one to say “I told you so…” but….. “I told you so…” 🙂

Back in 2012 I wrote a piece just after Disney confirmed their purchase of Lucas Films (including Star Wars) about how I expected them to incorporate the massive franchise in to their parks.

star wars land

Last night in Disney’s usual earnings call, Disney CEO Bob Iger stated Disney is

developing designs for a far greater ‘Star Wars’ presence in the parks, When we grow ‘Star Wars” presence, which we will do significantly, you will see better bets being made that will pay off for us than were made in the past,

As you can imagine the internet exploded…

Actual details of the planned expansion will not be announced until 2015 which coincides with the release of JJ Abrams new Star Wars film. However this hasn’t stopped the rumours from flying around from a dedicated land to a whole Star Wars park.

What we can look forward too is plenty of rumours, leaks and speculation. One thing I’m pretty sure about is that construction on such a massive project will be pretty hard to hide, so some major clues might not be too far away.

Disney Picks JJ Abrams To Re-Launch Star Wars Films

Hi Thrill Seekers,

I know, I  know, a new Star Wars film isn’t exactly theme park newsNew folder
but I thought the fact that Lucas Film is now owned by Disney gives me a little wiggle room. Plus when Disney make a purchase of this size you’d expect them to be looking to recoup as much of that money as they can, so a theme park land may well be in the pipeline, I wrote about what I’d like to see from a Star Wars Land a few weeks ago.

Now I know the last trilogy of Star Wars films were not up to much, but if latest reports are true Disney are definitely looking to alter that perception by drafting in JJ Abrams (Lost, Star Trek) to Direct. Abrams is a known fan of Star Wars and even took part in a “Ted Talks” lecture about the original Star Wars films.

The script has been written by Toy Story writer Michael Arndt with Lawrence Kasdan, writer of “The Empire Strikes Back” and “Return of the Jedi” working as a consultant on the new project which is due for release in 2015.

In Friday night’s statement Abrams called it an “absolute honour” to get the job.

He went on to add

“I may be even more grateful to George Lucas now than I was as a kid,”

Lucas himself said in the statement that

“I’ve consistently been impressed with J.J. as a filmmaker and storyteller. He’s an ideal choice to direct the new Star Wars film and the legacy couldn’t be in better hands.”

If I were writing the new Star Wars movie this is what I would do –

  • More Boba Fett
  • No Jaja Binks
  • New main characters, move on from Luke, Han, Vader etc
  • Go easy on the CGI, Live action is much better.

What would you do to make sure the next Star Wars Film was a success?
