Could Fast & Furious Orlando Drift Be Replacing Rip Ride Rockit?

Hey Thrill Seekers,
If you know me (and you probably don’t) I blooming loved Rip Ride Rockit, I know it shook your brain, I know it was possibly dated but I didn’t care… listening to the Beastie Boys as I hit speeds of up to 65mph was my jam! So as you can imagine, when the news broke that RRR was to be removed I was devastated, well as devastated as you can be when an attraction is removed. The Universal skyline will never be the same.

What we know
Permits filed by Universal Orlando show that a replacement attraction is being planned on the same footprint as RRR. The documents reference remove existing attraction and replace with proposed attraction. A specific permit lists construction of a two-story, ~39,000 sq ft facility at the location of RRR — signalling a major new attraction, not a minor refurbishment and another permit (Project 830) names the future work generically as “Amusement Ride” and outlines demolition, new building and utilities work in the area.
What we don’t know
Well pretty much everything as Universal have not confirmed a single thing about what will be replacing my beloved RRR.
Why I think it could be Fast & Furious: Orlando Drift
The permits reference a large replacement at Universal Studios, which fits with a major thrill-coaster style attraction rather than a minor update. Universal are currently working on a brand new coaster at Universal Hollywood called Fast & Furious Hollywood Drift.

The new coaster boasts a 4100ft long track and will travel up to speeds of 72mph, making it the fastest Universal coaster in the World!! Yep faster even than VelociCoaster… and we can’t have California beating Florida!!! The coaster trains will be an authentic resemblance of Dom’s 1970 Dodge Charger R/T with lap bar seats and on-board speakers.
Check out this mock up created by Universal, the coaster is set for launch in 2026.
Now we all know that the current Fast & Furious offering at Universal Studios has not reached the levels of appreciation that I’m sure Universal expected. So could this much need coaster be the answer?
Here’s what AI had to say;
The project replacing Rip Ride is very likely a major thrill ride, given the scale of building permits and demolition. The footprint and permits suggest something more significant than a simple refurb.
However, while the “Fast & Furious” themed coaster is a strong candidate (especially given what’s happening at Universal Studios Hollywood and the same ride manufacturer being involved) it remains a rumour, not confirmed. Until Universal officially names the new attraction and its IP, we should treat the Fast & Furious link as plausible but speculative.
What do you think? Could we be about to have an Orlando Drift?
Smiles included…
Jamie
