Is Abyss Coming To SeaWorld Orlando

Hey Thrill Seekers,

Mako, Kraken and Manta… the triple threat. 3 of the best coasters in Orlando but could they be about to become a quadruple quandary!

Rumour has it (and some plans submitted to local authorities) that SeaWorld Orlando are building a new coaster set to debut in 2020. The new coaster which is being built by coaster company Premier has similarities to Tigris and based on recent trademark filings could be called ABYSS.

Now some reports are describing the new attraction as a family coaster but don’t let that put you off, from what we’re hearing the coaster will have up to 4 launches with airtime and inversions that would reach a max speeds of up to 55 mph.

The image above provided by thecoasterkings.com, shows details of how we believe the new coaster will be positioned. It will be housed near Shamu Stadium and Mango Joe’s Restaurant which will lose part of its outside area to make way for the Abby’s queue.

The coaster itself, is rumoured to have 4 launches and will start by launching backwards up an incline that will have a curl to it, the coaster will then all forward (like Tigris) onto a second launch element with will propel it up a top hat element, a top hat or top cap consists of an ascent at a 90 degree angle immediately followed by a 90-degree descent. The top hat will be located near the Bayside Stadium, and will provide some great airtime (think Mako). The train will then hop over a guest pathway into a relatively undeveloped area near Ports of Call. There will probably be a few helixes and airtime hills, then the train will go back over the pathway and roll into the station.

SeaWorld haven’t confirmed any of this and it is thoroughly classed as a rumour but I like the sound of ABYSS, assuming that what it will be called.

We’ll keep you posted when we learn more.

SeaWorld’s Dolphin Days To Open This Spring

Hey Thrill Seekers,

Today SeaWorld Orlando announced they will launching a new show called Dolphin Days. The new show will replace the popular Blue Horizons show after an impressive 11 year run. Dolphin Days will immerse guests into the world of the ocean’s most playful ambassadors. Dolphin Days, will debut on Saturday 1 April, at the aptly named Dolphin Theatre and we can’t wait to see what they have in store.

In the new presentation, the audience will learn more about the individual personalities of each Atlantic bottlenose dolphin while witnessing the special bond they share with their trainers. A soaring rainbow of macaws and other tropical birds will also delight guests, uniting the mysteries of the deep oceans with the wonder and beauty of the skies above.

The new Dolphin Days will also present an interactive opportunity for young guests. During each show, one lucky young volunteer will be selected from the audience to learn first-hand from the training team in an up-close encounter with one of the dolphins and a green-winged macaw.

As guests are wowed by the agility, grace and aerial bows of the dolphins, they will learn how they can help protect dolphins in the wild. The addition of Dolphin Days is the latest example of how SeaWorld continues to provide families with experiences that matter. Through up-close encounters and unique shows like Dolphin Days, guests will leave the park inspired to care about this amazing species, and take action to help wild animals and the places they live.

Dolphin Days won’t be the only place to learn more about dolphins. The park’s new Dolphin Nursery will open in time for summer, offering an interactive educational experience for guests to see dolphins up close. The addition of virtual reality to Kraken and the new night-time spectacular Electric Ocean round out an exciting line-up of new attractions and shows opening this year.

SeaWorld And Aquatica Introduce New Photo Entry System

Hey Thrill Seekers,

You stroll up, you scan your Orlando Attraction Tickets gate ready ticket, you pop your finger in the biometric scanner and in you go…

Well not anymore, in a move to speed up the admission process and eliminate the potential for theft by protecting the ticket from being used by another person SeaWorld and Aquatica are introducing a new photo entry system.

This will involve guests having their picture taken at the entry gates and it, in turn being linked to the unique barcode on their admission ticket. The photo will then appear on all following visits to the parks upon presenting their ticket for entry. This will replace the finger print scan previously used.

seaworld entry

Why the change to a new process?
This new process will allow our Ambassadors to focus  more on our guests’ arrival experience by speeding up  the entry time into the park. A smoother process and
shorter wait equals more time for our guests to enjoy  the park.

How does this new process work?
You will start to see our front gate Ambassadors using new handheld devices to scan tickets and Passes. Upon  the guest’s fist visit, a photo will be taken and stored
for future visits. We request no hats or sunglasses be  worn for accurate identification. This new entry system  will replace the process that required use of the guest’s  index finger.

Which tickets or Passes require the photo?
Photos are required for all Annual Passes, Fun Cards,  and multi-day tickets. Photos are not currently required  for single-day tickets.

Why is a photo required?
The photo is used to verify the guest with their ticket  product, which will eliminate the potential for theft by  protecting your Annual Pass or ticket from being used  by another person.

Does my child need to have their photo taken?
Parent permission is needed for our team to take your  child’s photo. Your child’s photo would be stored locally  and retrieved only upon park entry. If you do not wish to  have your child’s photo taken please inform our team.

What if I decline having my photo taken?
You can choose to bypass having your photo taken.  Instead, you would need to show a photo ID each time  you enter the park. Guests under the age of 14 do not  need to present a photo ID.

Will the photo be printed on my Pass?
No. The photo will be used for internal use only and is  designed to verify the Pass Member or multi-day ticket  holder when they enter the park. It will not require a  new Pass or ticket to be printed.

When will this change take place?
The transition will occur late 2016 through early 2017.

SeaWorld Orlando Creates One-of-a-Kind Wetsuit for Penguin

Hey Thrill Seekers,

I think I may just have stumbled upon the worlds most adorable penguin…

Move over Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid there’s a new model in town and yep, that’s right, she’s a penguin! This cute little Adelie penguin who goes by the name of Wonder Twin resides in Antarctica, Empire of the Penguins at SeaWorld Orlando and has her own custom made wetsuit. No.. SeaWorld haven’t gone mad, it’s actually a very endearing story.

SeaWorld staff recently noticed that Wonder Twin had begun to lose some of her feathers – feather loss can happen to penguins in their natural habitat and wild populations. It can even cause harm to the penguins but SeaWorld won’t allow this to happen – not under their watch!

Penguins need their feathers to help stop masses of water reaching their skin and damaging it. Their feathers are short, broad and very close together.. about 100 feathers per square inch to be precise!! Penguins also need their feather for insulating purposes.

Wonder Twin started to have problems regulating her body temperature due to losing her feathers and this is where SeaWorld’s Aviculture team (the team that focuses on the keeping and rearing of birds) stepped in with a bit of help from the costume department! SeaWorld’s park release said ‘“SeaWorld’s aviculture team set out to assist her and created a wetsuit to mimic her former coat of feathers. The coat was designed and sewn by SeaWorld’s wardrobe department and custom fit just for her.”’ It just gets cuter doesn’t it?!

If this isn’t already the cutest thing you’ve heard all year then please take a look at these photos of Wonder Twin. Awwwwwwww.

20160902_ANTPenguinWetsuit_017

The special wetsuit works to regulate her body temperature and acts exactly as her feathers would against the cold water and low temperatures.

20160902_ANTPenguinWetsuit_012

Wonder Twin is able to carry on living a carefree life (even though she may be the fashion envy of her fellow flockmates) and continues to eat, sleep and swim alongside the other penguins all whilst looking pretty sassy doing it.

This is yet another great example of how SeaWorld Orlando continue to care for all of the animals inside their park as well as ensuring they look wonderful at the same time.

Halloween At SeaWorld…

Hey Thrill Seekers,

Mako Hard Hat Event

Hey Thrill Seekers,

Yesterday SeaWorld Orlando held a hard hat event to introduce Mako to the gathered media.

Here’s what happened..

We’ve also broke down some of the information below.

20160510_MakoHardHatTour_011

Mako, Orlando’s tallest, fastest and longest roller coaster will surface at SeaWorld on 10th June and will be the centrepiece of Shark Wreck Reef – a newly designed realm that blends education and thrills, while immersing guests in an underwater world.

20160510_MakoHardHatTour_027

The two-acre realm will be fully shark themed and include Mako, Shark Encounter, Sharks Underwater Grill, shops, shark and shipwreck theming and educational experiences featuring sharks.

Shark Wreck Reef is designed to make guests feel they’re underwater and part of the group of sharks that have taken over a shipwrecked reef.

Inside the realm, guests will learn about the impact humans are having on sharks and why these animals are critical to the environment. Sharks are hunted for their fins — considered a delicacy in certain countries — and in addition, tens of thousands are caught accidentally in nets. Several species of sharks are on the verge of extinction.

20160510_MakoHardHatTour_036

As guests venture further into the realm and into the queue line they’ll discover a unique sound system that will enhance their experience.  An original Mako score can be heard and follows guests as they enter the loading bay and emerge from the station aboard Mako and up the lift hill.

20160510_MakoHardHatTour_051

At night, specialty lights will accent the coaster trains, realm and track, flickering and shimmering, simulating fish being scattered by a mako on the hunt.

Mako will be a hypercoaster, designed for speed and relentless “air time” and lures guests to brave it’s tight turns, steep drops and predator power speeds. Riders will climb up to 200 feet high – offering tremendous views of the surrounding area – before plunging to reach speeds up to 73 mph.

20160510_MakoHardHatTour_061

I can’t wait to see this new area and of course ride the mighty Mako Hyper Coaster… I have to wait until October hopefully your visit will be sooner…

I cannot wait for this ride, its so refreshing to have a coaster rather than another 3D ride. If I’m not first inline to ride this I’ll defo be second 🙂
