Universal Studios Florida’s much loved Horror Make-Up Show – which has been running since the park opened in 1990 – will give its final performances of the current version on January 4, 2026.
Starting January 5, 2026, the show will take a temporary break for refurbishment. A revamped version, keeping the mix of special effects showcases, comedy, and audience participation, is set to launch in 2026. Universal Orlando Resort has yet to share any specifics about the updates but we can imagine they will be adding in some modern horror effects to move with the times.
I hope there’s some new sections on HHN, It would be so interesting to see how they create characters such as Vecna and Terrifier and how the sfx in houses such as blumhouse and especially within their own IP houses work.
A internet source shared the following information about the Horror Make-Up Show from an email sent to Universal Team Members:
- Universal Orlando Resort is excited to debut a reimagined Horror Make-Up Show at Universal Studios Florida next year, featuring classic and modern horror properties along with shockingly fun surprises – all while staying true to the comedic and irreverent vibe that guests love.
- The last day for the current Horror Make-Up Show will be Saturday, January 4, 2026.
The Horror Make-Up show is one of my favourite things to do in Universal Studios, it is absolutely hilarious whilst being super informative and interesting. If you are yet to experience it and will be in Orlando before the 5th January I urge you to go and watch it! (plus the air-con is a god send)
In the Horror Make-Up live show you’ll watch how top make-up and special effects artists craft some of the creepy characters you’ve seen on the big screen. Featuring movie clips, props, and interactive demonstrations, as well as learning how to make movie-quality fake blood. This experience offers fascinatingly funny insight into the moviemaking process. Before you enter the theater you can check out the lobby’s collection of authentic props, make-up effects, and more from legendary Universal Studios horror movies.
