A Celebration of Harry Potter will not return in 2019

Hey Thrill Seekers,

We do always try our best to bring you good news from within the world of Orlando theme parks however sometimes we cannot avoid bad news…

This time we aren’t basing off rumours.. Universal have confirmed that A Celebration of Harry Potter isn’t going to return to their parks in 2019. Here’s the official press release:

Universal Orlando Resort is working on exciting new experiences for guests to continue to celebrate the Wizarding World next year. These include the all-new thrill ride coming to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Hogsmeade and additional fan experiences that have yet to be announced. While our focus on these fan experiences means we will not be hosting A Celebration of Harry Potter in 2019, we and other Universal theme parks will always be looking for opportunities to host special Wizarding World experiences.

This poses the questions of ‘is it being replaced by something new?’ or ‘are they too busy with the new ride to host it?’ Gavin thinks that they could be replacing it with something Fantastic Beasts themed ‍♀️ Universal have also said that there are going to be ‘additional fan experiences’ like the Back to Hogwarts event hosted on the 1st September.

Now we don’t know if it is just 2019 that Universal have pulled the plug on or future years as well as that isn’t mentioned in the press release. It is quite unusual though, A Celebration of Harry Potter has been going 5 years and each year seems to become more and more popular so surely it cannot be a case of it not bringing in enough witches, wizards and muggles?

Lets take a look back at some of the cool shots we got from last years event.

It’s a sort of bitter-sweet feeling as we don’t like to say goodbye to a fantastic event but we can look forward to what Universal are going to surprise us with in the near future..

First look at the Stranger Things house

Hey Thrill Seekers!

Today is a good day! Universal have given us a sneak peak into the Stranger Things house…

From the moment you step inside, you’re going to feel as if you have become a part of the show. The team has recreated all the fan-favorite, iconic scenes from Season 1 in sets that rival the show. The detail is incredible from the Upside Down to the creation of the Demogorgon (which we’re going to leave for you to discover when you come to the event). There are even intricate details that only a hardcore Stranger Things fan would recognize (again, going to let you find those for yourself!)

So Universal have given us an insight…. but not too much has been given away to spoil it. Perfect. Check out the cool images and video that they’ve released..

Eeeeeeekk!

THE TWISTED TALES OF AN AMERICAN HORROR STORY WILL BECOME YOUR NIGHTMARE AT HALLOWEEN HORROR NIGHTS 26!

Earlier today, Michael Aiello (Director of Creative Development for Entertainment at UOR) revealed the latest house for Halloween Horror Nights 26!

FX’s American Horror Story!

This all-new house will feature Season 1: Murder House, Season 4: Freak Show and Season 5: Hotel.

Here’s what Michael had to say;

Since this fantastic series began we’ve been watching and calculating how – if ever given the chance – we would translate it into a haunted experience. The most engaging aspect of American Horror Story is the fact that every season is a completely new storyline, with brand new environments and characters, not unlike Halloween Horror Nights.

First, we needed to decide how to capture all that content into a single house. The uber-maze or larger template we’ve adopted, most recently with our popular 25th Anniversary maze last year, was the most ideal format.

You’ll be confronted by the horrors that reside within the walls of the newly bought Harmon residence and evade the abominations that call it’s basement home.

You’ll witness the atrocities that befell many of the unfortunate souls of a roadside Freak Show and encounter Twisty, a maniacal and deformed clown performer.

Lastly, you will check into the Hotel Cortez and unlock the domain of The Countess, as she ensures your stay is anything but pleasant.

We’ve worked extremely close with the series creator, Ryan Murphy and 20th Century Fox, to insure it captures the series in every way possible.

As usual the amazing attention to detail will make this a must see at HHN 26!  if you are feeling brave you still have time to bag yourself some tickets to this ‘must visit’ event. Check the link below for details on Universal 2-Park Bonus tickets with HHN or the Frequent Fear pass!

NBCUniversal Acquires Rights to J. K. Rowling’s Wizarding World Franchise

Hey Thrill Seekers,

nbc-uni-logoFor those of you that like to keep up on the latest developments in the theme park world there was a very interesting development yesterday that could have an impact on content within the Universal Orlando Resort theme parks.

NBCUniversal announced an exclusive deal with Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution for broadcast and cable network television rights in the United States to all of the films in J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World franchise. Beginning July 1, 2018, all eight HARRY POTTER films can be seen on NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment’s USA Network and Syfy in a deal that also gives rights to air the films across all NBCUniversal television networks. The agreement includes exclusive basic cable rights to the new FANTASTIC BEASTS films – the first of which releases early November 2016. In addition, the partnership incorporates exclusive content and events for the Universal theme parks.

I’m sure you’re fascinated by this but what exactly does this have to do with Theme Parks I hear you cry?…

Well, In addition to the digital and broadcast tie up this deal will allow Universal Orlando to explore a range of new opportunities including fan events, movie screenings and promotional activities tied to the “Harry Potter” franchise and the upcoming “Fantastic Beasts” film series.

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Orlando Resort, along with The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade at Universal Orlando Resort, have become global entertainment phenomena. They offer guests immersive, expansive environments complete with innovative attractions, shops and restaurants. The lands bring the films to life in an entirely new way and immerse guests in the adventures of Harry Potter. Universal worked closely with J.K. Rowling and Warner Bros. to create the areas to ensure they are as authentic as possible.

We will keep an eye on this as it develops – we’d love to see some Fantastic Beasts content…hint, hint 🙂

Universal Confirm “Race Through New York Starring Jimmy Fallon” Attraction

Hey Thrill Seekers,

Its been a rumour that hasn’t gone away for quite some time now but yesterday Universal and Jimmy Fallon himself confirmed that in 2017 Universal Studios will open a new 3D attraction called “Race Through New York Starring Jimmy Fallon”…

Fallon-announcement-art-featured-1170x731

Jimmy Fallon is hugely popular in the U.S. and is the current host of the Late Show. Now as some of you might be thinking, a host of a late night talk show doesn’t exactly scream theme park attraction, so what’s it going to be like!?

Jimmy himself described it as “Just like Harry Potter but with me in it”. Universal describe it like this;

our team found inspiration in the outrageous celebrity races that have become one of the most popular segments of Jimmy’s Tonight Show. The source material already features a wild and crazy ride almost every week! And since Universal Studios Florida has long been famous for placing guests in the middle of their favorite movies and TV shows, we thought it was a perfect fit.

You’ll rocket through the streets—and skies—of New York City, from the deepest subway tunnels to the tallest skyscrapers, encountering colorful characters, famous landmarks and anything else that comes to Jimmy’s mind—and “that is some weird, wild stuff,” to quote an iconic previous host.

To make way for the new experience Universal will be closing Twister…Ride it out on November 2nd.

You can purchase Universal Studios Tickets from Orlando Attraction Tickets for as little as £113 for 2015.

Did Universal Wake A Sleeping Giant?

Hey Thrill Seekers,

There’s never been a better time to be a theme park fan. It seems like a day doesn’t go by without a new rumour or news breaking about what’s being built next. Its a far cry from ten years ago when the Florida market was totally dominated by the mouse.

Don’t get me wrong, Disney are still the powerhouses in Orlando as last years attendance figures show but competitors have made ground mostly in the shape of Universal Orlando Resort.

1491583_900386143306503_6798817227309893272_n

Writing this  in the aftermath of the success of recent years it seems funny to write that Universal was once consider a 1 day visit, but a string of successful introductions has helped change peoples perceptions and change Universal into a resort rather than an afterthought.

The major change came with the introduction of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, Universal’s runaway success at one point could have been a Disney IP if reports are true. The word on the street is that JK Rowling decided not to work with Disney due to their reluctance to give her final approval. Disney’s loss has vey much been Universal’s gain.

Although not a one trick pony Universal continued their growth by introducing Diagon Alley at Universal Studios, doubling up on their Potter product. The attention to detail at both Wizarding Worlds has set a new standard in theme park theming and now along with Transformers, Minions and the future launch of Skull Island, Universal is easily a 3 day plus option.

Has this new found success though awoken a sleeping giant? In my opinion, for years Disney had it a little too easy, Universal’s new found success is probably something that Disney needed, a little kick in the bottom. Their recent announcements of the planned introduction of a dedicated Star Wars Land and a Toy Story Land while also building Pandora the Avatar Film inspired land shows Disney mean business.

starwars

A dedicated Star Wars land is clearly the standout product, with the introduction of the new films, the first set to open at cinema’s in December, a Star Wars Land will appeal to Mum’s, Dad’s and children! Its the perfect trifecta.

Competition is good for everybody and in this case the real winners will be the guests, better attractions, better technology and better value for money. You can purchase Disney Passes at Orlando Attraction Tickets from as little as £262.00 for 2015.

Universal Orlando Resort Announce Their Holiday Parade Line-up!

Hey Thrill Seekers,

CHRISTMAS!!!….

hols-uni

I know, you hate me for saying it, but as much as we try to put it to the back of our minds we have to come to terms with the fact that its on its way. For us here in the UK its a question of which supermarket will start playing Christmas songs first – and disgustingly enough it’s usually around this time of year too – well, anyway, I’ve brought you down enough, lets get back on track…The reason I mention the ‘C word’  is because Universal Orlando Resort have just announced their Holiday parade line-up.

Beginning Dec. 5 and running daily through Jan 2, you can enjoy:

  • The Macy’s Holiday Parade at Universal Studios Florida. This year, you’ll get to see two all-new balloons exclusive to our parade: Turkey Balloonicle—a towering balloon with a self-powered vehicle—and Holiday Lights Balloon—a spectacular string of balloons that dazzle while floating through the air.
  • Grinchmas coming to life throughout Seuss Landing at Universal’s Islands of Adventure. You won’t want to miss the heartwarming live show, “Grinchmas Who-liday Spectacular,” featuring the Whos from Who-ville. You’ll also have the opportunity to dine with The Grinch and Friends during a delicious character breakfast.
  • Mannheim Steamroller, the masters of modern Christmas music. This year, they’ll take the Music Plaza Stage in Universal Studios on Dec. 5, 6, 12, 13, 19 and 20.

If you are lucky enough to be staying in a Universal property – The celebration continues at their four on-site hotels, where you check out holiday buffets and dining events, tree-lighting ceremonies, special music performances, Hanukkah candle lighting’s, visits from Santa Claus, holiday poolside “dive-in” movies and family-friendly New Year’s Eve celebrations.

If you are travelling around the holidays these parades really are worth taking a peek at – I promise, you’ll get a warm Christmassy feeling inside 😛

Halloween Horror Nights 25 – The Scare Zones!

Hey Thrill Seekers…

So last week we brought you the full line up of houses for Halloween Horror Nights 25 and I have to admit that I am super jealous of anyone that is lucky enough to be going, as this year, it looks to be Universal’s best yet!

clown

In addition to the great line up of houses there are also an array of chilling ‘Scare Zones’ to negotiate as you make your way from house to house.

Scare Zones

  • Psychoscareapy: Unleashed — The criminally insane inmates of Shadybrooke Asylum have escaped and unleashed their horror onto a Halloween block party in the streets of New York. Come join the party goers as the inmates kill for the best Halloween costumes for their very own special costume contest where you will be the judge. Oh, and this will be one of the bloodiest scare zones ever!
  • ICONS: HHN — And now for the scare zone I’m looking forward to the most! It’s time to take a look back in history and come face-to-face with the icons from our past. Iconic characters from the event’s 25 year history such as The Caretaker, The Storyteller, The Director and more will be found roaming the streets of Hollywood. I’ve even heard The Rat Lady will be making her grand return!
  • Scary Tales: ScreamPunk — This year, we’re bringing to life our most horrifying Scary Tales characters with a new twist. This steampunk-inspired version of Scary Tales is sure to leave you screaming.
  • Evil’s Roots — It’s time to be immersed in Halloween’s most evil traditions in the scare zone located in Central Park. Here you’ll find the event’s traditional jack-o-lanterns in the air as you encounter evil fairies, humanoid bats, scarecrows and more. Think “Grown Evil” from 2011 but on a whole ‘nother level!
  • All Nite Die-In: Double Feature — Last but certainly not least is a double feature of horror at The Carey DrIvE IN movie theatre. Wander down the streets of San Francisco and you’ll come across this theatre that has been named “DIE IN”, due to the gruesome murders that occurred. Enter if you dare…

Plus dont forget the 2 amazing live shows;

  • The Carnage Returns — Jack the Clown is taking Halloween Horror Nights back in a blaze of murderous mayhem with his army of feared followers and his companion in carnage, Chance. Remember, Jack always has the last laugh.
  • Bill and Ted’s Excellent Halloween Adventure — Of course, they’re back in an all-new Halloween adventure. I could never describe the hilarious insanity of that show. It has to be seen to be believed. Party on, dudes!

There is still time to be part of this amazing event…

Universal Confirm Temporary Closure Of The Incredible Hulk Coaster For Refurbishment

Hey Thrill Seekers,

Back in July we reported that The Incredible Hulk Coaster at Islands of Adventure might be subject to a makeover well over the weekend Universal confirmed that our suspicions were indeed correct.

the hulk coaster

Widely considered as one of the best coasters in Florida guests will be able to ride the green beast up until the 8th September. Reporting via their own blog Universal stated;

We want to let you know that The Incredible Hulk Coaster will be getting some great, new enhancements to its storyline, ride vehicles and overall experience.

That work means we’ll have to close the attraction beginning Sept. 8. It will roar back to life next summer and we’ll keep you posted on the details. In the meantime, be sure to check out the other great, thrilling, experiences at Universal’s Islands of Adventure, including Dr. Doom’s FearFall, Dragon Challenge, Jurassic Park River Adventure and more.

I’ve been lucky enough to get a sneak peek at plans for The Incredible Hulk Coaster, and I can tell you the overall experience is going to feel more immersive and high-tech. But don’t worry—the attraction will still have the same “Incredible” personality that makes it one of America’s most popular coasters.

We’ve been speculating about what the upgrades might be and believe the following are a distinct possibility;

New Trains – Looks like Universal will be updating the Hulk’s trains the most sensational tidbit is that the new trains may not have the over head restraints associated with the Hulk but a lap restraint made by B&M which would free up riders arms!… How long do you think you could wave your arms in the air?

Launch – The Hulk Coaster is renown for its fast launch start, the update is said to also involve updating the technology that provides that 0-40 mph boost.

Queue – We’re also hearing that a new queue experience will be on the cards. Perhaps with a totally new story.

We’ll obviously know more when Universal begin to update us.
