Hey Thrill Seekers,

On Monday I had the pleasure of attending a journalist heavy media event held by Universal Orlando at the trendy W Hotel in Leicester Square for a quick chat about Skull Island: Reign of Kong.

Headed by Vice President, Tom Schroder and Mike West Executive Producer they ran through some of the details of what we can expect from Universal’s massive new attraction. Now for clarity a large portion of the information we were given is actually under embargo, so I can’t tell you everything I’d like to until I get the green light, but there was still tons of interesting information.

The story of Skull Island: Reign of Kong takes place in the early 1930’s and pre-dates the original film. The photo that’s been doing the rounds (pictured below) is of the main doors to enter the attraction.

The temple doors are 72 feet tall, 32 feet wide. The rock work around the doors was hand sculpted and took 70 thousand man hours to complete.

The attraction itself has been a 3 year project, with approx. 300 construction workers and 40 creatives employed. Universal are keen for this ride to be aimed at the family and therefore the ride height is going to be 34″

Universal are particular proud of the story that accompanies the attraction, which although we didn’t get the full arch (Universal rightly want it to be a surprise for the visitor) they did confirm that it will feature a pack of Dinosaurs, one question unanswered was will King Kong be the Hero or the Villain?

The attraction will feature an original score by Bill Ross and performed by the London Symphony Orchestra it was recorded at the legendary Abbey Roads studios.

Although Universal didn’t confirm the exact length of the attraction they did confirm that it would be “significantly longer than Spider-Man” and would be a mixture of 3D (using Cave Goggles) and animatronics… Mike West said it had a little bit of everything!

We’ll update you with even more information once the embargo is lifted, hopefully we wont have to wait to long.

Smiles included…

Jamie
