Disney Patents The Use Of Drones In Theme Park Shows

Hey Thrill Seekers,

What’s that up in the sky, is it a bird, is it a plane? Nope its could possibly, in the future, be a drone if Disney recently filed patent is anything to go by.

First noted by Marketwatch, Disney have applied for three separate patents for the use of drones within their parks.

The three applications are:

  • Aerial Display System with Floating Pixels
  • Aerial Display System with Floating Projection Screens
  • Aerial Display System with Marionettes Articulated and Supported by Airborne Devices

All very impressive, but what would they actually be used for?

Well within their applications Disney offer a couple of user case studies. The first suggests that the drone would be able to carry puppet versions of popular Disney characters and fly them overhead.

The second case would see the drones used as a replacement (or in conjunction) for their hugely popular firework shows, cutey nicknamed “Flixels”, drones would be lit up used to replicate fireworks.

A very interesting move from Disney which again shows them at the cutting edge of technology. What do you think of Disney’s plans?

Smiles included…
