Monstropolis – Disney’s Hollywood Studios

If you’re super excited (like me) for Monstropolis to open at Hollywood Studios then this is the blog for you… hopefully.. I’ve put together all the information we currently know about the new Monsters Inc Land ‘Monstropolis’ coming to Hollywood Studios in either 2027 or 2028 – replacing Muppets Courtyard.
The Walt Disney Imagineering Presents case recently housed a display on Monstropolis and the plaque stated: Monstropolis: After years spent scaring us, monsters are finally welcoming humans into Monstropolis with an all new themed land inspired by the beloved Monsters, Inc. film franchise. Coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios, the land will feature shopping, dining, and the first-ever suspended coaster in a Disney park. As in the film, guests will first be hoisted into the air — via a unique vertical-lift system — before zooming off on a thrilling ride through the iconic Door Vault.
The main attraction will feature the first ever suspended coaster and vertical lift at any Disney park. It is also rumoured to be housed in the largest ride building in any Disney park!
Other attractions and offerings haven’t been officially announced, but concept art teases a reimagining of the MuppetVision 3D theater and PizzeRizzo. Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano is set to become Harryhausen’s.

Josh D’Amaro (Disney Experiences Chairman) recently spoke about the upcoming project and had some cool stuff to say! –
‘Picking up after the events of Pixar’s beloved film, humans have now been invited to visit the world of Monsters, Inc. — and the monsters need laughter to power the city and keep it running smoothly. But it’s not a true visit without the factory itself. You’ll be able to see the sights, hear the laughs and zoom through the building just like James P. Sullivan (a.k.a. Sulley) and Mike Wazowski — via a door!
Yes, a door. If you’ve been dreaming of riding through the door vault since the movie was released in 2001, you’re not alone — Josh has been thinking about this, too. “The first time I saw Monsters, Inc., all I wanted to do was ride on one of those doors like Mike and Sulley,” he told the crowd. “You’ll go into the factory and experience the first suspended coaster ever in a Disney park. Remember in the movie how those claws grab the doors and hoist them up into the air to take them away? We’re doing that, too. And you’re going along for the ride.”

While many details about the attraction are still locked up in a laugh canister, the Imagineering team is ready to reveal the load area for the attraction.
Showing off a new animatic of the attraction, guests will board the vehicle before being hoisted into the air (just like in the movie!) to zoom into the door vault. It’s going to be, “an experience that’s as memorable and fun as the film,”

While Disney has yet to unveil every detail, several features of Monstropolis have been circulating:
- Immersive Theming: Guests will step into the monster-filled city, with streets and buildings inspired by the vibrant, quirky world seen in the “Monsters, Inc.” films. Expect colourful facades, playful signage, and a lively atmosphere that brings the animated world to life.
- Dining Experiences: Monstropolis will feature themed dining outlets, including a sit-down restaurant modelled after the “Harryhausen’s” sushi bar seen in the film, serving both monster-inspired and classic fare to suit all tastes.
- Retail Opportunities: Speciality shops will offer exclusive Monstropolis merchandise, from plush toys to apparel, allowing fans to take a piece of the magic home.
- Character Encounters: Visitors can expect to meet favourite characters such as Mike Wazowski, James P. Sullivan (Sulley), and Boo, with interactive photo opportunities and engaging entertainment.

Monstropolis promises to add a fresh dose of fun, imagination, and Pixar magic to Disney’s Hollywood Studios. As we await more details and an official opening date, fans can look forward to experiencing a world where monsters are friendly, adventures are endless, and every visit offers something new. Stay tuned for updates as Disney reveals more about this eagerly anticipated land!
I can’t wait to be able to step into the Monsters Inc. Films and visit Monstropolis! Which part are you most excited for?
