Here’s what Universal had to say;

Today, excited guests gathered in Universal’s Islands of Adventure to help mark the official opening of Universal Orlando Resort’s newest mega attraction, Skull Island: Reign of Kong.

Skull Island: Reign of Kong brings the next generation of the King Kong legend to life on an unprecedented scale. The adventure begins as guests are transported deep into a mysterious world, where their mission is to discover creatures of unknown origin with the 8th Wonder Expedition Company, the research team leading the excursion. After braving ancient temple ruins and encountering hostile natives, they board a massive 40-foot-long, 17-ton expedition vehicle to navigate the increasingly foreboding terrain.

The specially designed expedition vehicle, which operates on a completely trackless ride system, takes guests deeper into the ominous island, where they soon find themselves in the midst of a brutal struggle between beasts of unimaginable size and ferocity.

Then, as those creatures turn on the expedition, there is an even more enormous, earth-pounding presence. It is Kong – in the flesh. Towering nearly three stories tall, he is so close that you can feel his breath and sense his emotion. But is he friend or foe?

We were expecting further news from Universal today but it looks like the full release is this video hosted by Mike West Creative Director unveiling how the King Kong will look…

This video post seems to suggest that Kong will be animatronic which is such a great departure from the usual 3D effects parks are using at the moment. I’d hope if the new Kong is successful they might use the same technology to freshen up Jurassic Land.

Here’s some Kong stat’s;

We’ll post again when Universal unveils more news… (hopefully an opening date.)

Universal Orlando Launches Myth Explorer Campaign

Hey Thrill Seekers,

One of 2016 most anticipated openings is Universal’s Skull Island: Reign of Kong the attraction based around the myth of King Kong is set to debut in the summer of 2016. With not a lot of official information being released from Universal regarding exactly what the attraction will entail we weren’t surprised to see Universal begin a marketing campaign which will probably run up to opening.

The campaign see’s Myth Explorer Erin Ryder heading out to find Skull Island.

New episodes will be launched sporadically on Universal’s mini site MythExplorer.com. We’ll keep you updated on any new information regarding the attraction.

A Few Clues On What We Can Expect From Skull Island: Reign Of Kong

Hey Thrill Seekers,

Set to open this summer at Universal’s Islands of Adventure, Skull Islands: Reign of Kong is an attraction we’ve been looking forward to for sometime now. Not a lot of information has been forthcoming from Universal who generally like to keep details of new attractions very close to their chest however yesterday they updated their website and may have given us some clues…

So here’s the blurb Universal provided;

Live the brutal struggle of a 1930’s expedition that’s caught in a clash between prehistoric predators, man-eating beasts and the most colossal ape ever to walk the earth—King Kong. Around every thrilling turn, ferocious monsters fight for dominance, while you just fight to survive. It’s the multi-sensory, multi-dimensional ride for your life.

Ok so we already new that the ride cars we’re going to be designed to look like trucks, the rendering they provided earlier in the year showed us this.

They’ve also mentioned that the ride will be multi sensory and multi dimensional… Hmm… What could that entail?

Well digging a tiny bit deeper we found this information;  so no surprise that the ride will feature 3d elements as this seems to be all the rage at the moment, the ride is suggested for Teens and Adults which means it will either have thrill elements or will be a bit scary…

Open Captioning Available, is an interesting one. In the word of film, open captioning generally suggests subtitles, so we can assume we’ll be following a story, subtitling though doesn’t just begin and end at words it is also used to express sound to the hard of hearing. So perhaps the multi sensory will not only include your eyes but also your ears.

With the success of Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts, I’m imagining that perhaps Reign of Kong will be similar. Meaning that it wont be like your standard motion ride where you are stationary, I think you’ll be moving around allowing Universal to totally emerge its visitors in Skull Island. Hence perhaps the multi-dimensional part?

One things for sure we’ll find out more very soon.
