Mythos Closing at Islands of Adventure: End of an Era for Universal Orlando Fans

Hey Thrill Seekers,

For more than 25 years, Mythos Restaurant has been one of the true icons of Universal Orlando Resort. Frequently described as one of the best theme park restaurants in the world, the dramatic cave-themed dining location inside The Lost Continent at Islands of Adventure has become a must-do for many UK holidaymakers visiting Orlando.

Now, Universal Orlando has officially confirmed that Mythos will permanently close in 2027 as part of a wider transformation of The Lost Continent area.

The announcement has sparked an emotional reaction from longtime Universal fans, especially those who have memories of dining beneath the restaurant’s towering rock walls and cascading waterfalls during family holidays to Florida.

🌎Universal Orlando Confirms Mythos Closure

Universal Orlando released a statement confirming that venues and experiences within The Lost Continent will close in phases to make way for a new themed area at Islands of Adventure. According to Universal, this will include the closure of Mythos Restaurant in 2027.

In its official statement, Universal said:

“Universal Orlando Resort is continuing its unprecedented momentum…”

The resort added that additional details about the future of the area “will be shared in the months ahead.”

While Universal has not yet confirmed exactly what will replace The Lost Continent, rumours continue to point towards major new intellectual properties potentially arriving at Islands of Adventure in the future. We’ve been guessing at a Zelda Land since 2018.

🗿Why Mythos Means So Much to Universal Fans

Ever since Islands of Adventure opened in 1999, Mythos has stood apart from typical theme park dining.

The restaurant became famous for its unique mythology-inspired setting, impressive interior design and surprisingly high-quality food compared to standard park quick service options. For many British visitors planning a two-week Orlando holiday, Mythos often became the “special meal” booked during a Universal day.

Located between Hogsmeade and Jurassic Park, the restaurant has long been viewed as a peaceful escape from the Florida heat and crowds. The aircon in their is unrivalled!

Over the years, The Lost Continent itself has slowly disappeared piece by piece. Dueling Dragons became part of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, Sinbad closed in 2018 and Poseidon’s Fury shut permanently in 2023.

For many fans, the closure of Mythos feels like the final chapter.

🗣️Fan Reaction Has Been Emotional

Reaction online has been immediate, with many Universal Orlando fans describing the closure as “the end of an era.”

Across social media and fan forums, guests have shared memories of anniversary meals, first family trips and annual traditions centred around Mythos.

Some fans also expressed disappointment that another original Islands of Adventure experience is disappearing, particularly after Poseidon’s Fury closed only a few years ago.

Others understand why Universal is moving forward with redevelopment, especially following the opening of Epic Universe and the company’s major expansion plans across Orlando.

🕹️What Could Replace Mythos?

At the moment, Universal Orlando has not officially revealed what the new themed area will be.

However, speculation continues around possible Nintendo, Pokémon or even Legend of Zelda expansion plans for Islands of Adventure.

One interesting detail from Universal’s announcement is that Thunder Falls Terrace in Jurassic Park will also close and become a new “signature full-service restaurant” for Islands of Adventure.

That suggests Universal knows guests still want a premium sit-down dining experience inside the park once Mythos disappears.

🤔Should You Visit Mythos Before It Closes?

Absolutely.

If you are planning a Universal Orlando holiday from the UK in 2026 or early 2027, Mythos should still be high on your list. The restaurant remains one of the most visually impressive dining locations in any Orlando theme park.

For first-time visitors especially, it is one of those classic Universal experiences that may soon exist only in old holiday photos and YouTube videos.

Reservations are likely to become increasingly popular now the closure has been confirmed, so booking ahead will be important during busy periods like Easter, summer holidays and Christmas.
