Universal Reveal Entertainment And Interactive Experiences At The Wizarding World Of Harry Potter Diagon Alley

Hey Thrill Seekers,

The beauty of what Universal have done with the Potter franchise is in the detail. They don’t just throw a couple of awesome attractions up they really look to immerse the visitor into the Wizarding World.

This evening we’ve received an update from Universal on some of the added extras that will make your visit to Universal Studios special. When you’ve made your way into Diagon Alley via the brick wall, take a right at Weasley’s Wizard Wheezers and head toward the bustling shopping area known as Carkitt Market. This location is where you’ll find two new live shows…

The first show is based on two stories taken from The Tales of Beedle the Bard, The fountain of fortune and the tale of the three brothers. The show uses scenic pieces, props and puppetry created by Michael Curry, Emmy award winning designer.

Check out these amazing images;

The second show is a musical performance by The Singing Sorceress: Celestina Warbeck and the Banshees, as I’m sure you know they’re a popular band in the Wizarding World. The songs sung are all titles created by J.K. Rowling and include “You stole my cauldron but can’t have my heart”, “A cauldron full of hot, strong love” and “You charmed the heart right out of me”.

On top of these awesome live shows, Universal also announced some exciting interactive features.

In the London area you’ll find the knight bus and it’s permanent residents, the shrunken head (voiced by Lenny Henry in the films) and the conductor, guests will be able to chat, joke and take photos.

You’ll also be able to exchange your hard earned dollars for some proper money at the Gringotts Money Exchange, visitors can get their hands on Wizarding Bank Notes which can be used at both universal parks, all overseen by a Gringotts Goblin.

We also hear there are more surprises yet to be revealed…

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter! Bigger, bolder & now more powerful than ever!

Hi All,

There’s something brewing in Orlando and its getting stronger!

hp1

Universal have today launched a national television campaign in the USA to promote the much anticipated opening of the expansion of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. The 30 second commercial bills The Wizarding World of Harry Potter featuring; Hogsmeade, The Hogwarts Express and Diagon Alley. This is the first visual to encompass the whole park experience.

The commercial describes the new features to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter as; Bigger, bolder and more powerful than ever! and to be honest its pretty much looking that way 🙂

Still no official launch date has been released the commercial is also pretty vague stating that the expansion will open summer 2014. However, as always we like to speculate on these things and we believe that is will open sometime in June.

We’ll keep you posted on this one 😉

Universal Orlando Reveals New Hogwarts Express Details

One of the good things about Universal is that they know exactly how to build momentum  and the update on The Hogwarts Express at Universal Orlando Resort is no exception!

On Monday (10/03/2014) I was lucky enough to be invited by Universal to a special press conference hosted at Kings Cross Station – Now, before you Potter fans start getting all giddy it wasn’t at Platform 9 3/4, it was actually just round the back, at the Renaissance Hotel. I also travelled using the Victoria line from Oxford Circus and not the Night Bus 🙂

The press conference was hosted by Mark Woodbury, President of Universal Creative and James Phelps who played Fred Weasley in the films. Mark joined us via a live video link from Orlando and as a special treat James was at the conference in person.

The event kicked off with a short video showing some of the ‘lifelike’ concept animation that the riders will experience along the route from Kings Cross to Hogwarts and vice versa. The footage was actually a world premier and showed some amazing scenes featuring Hagrid, Hedwig the owl, Hogwarts pupils on broomsticks and Hippogriffs flying past the train carriages all using the familiar back drop of the countryside.

The train cabins will be windowless – in place of the windows the animation will be delivered to riders on glasses free 3D screens during their journey. Each carriage will be split into cabins. Each cabin will seat 8 riders with 25 cabins per carriage – this will give a maximum carriage capacity of 200 riders.

Here are some of the factoids that we manage to get hold of;

The train journey itself will last 6 minutes

6 minutes is about the average ride duration at Universal when you factor in getting on and off of the ride. On board the train you can expect Universal’s usual immaculate attention to detail which will ensure an authentic ride experience. Mark also hinted that as well as merchandising opportunities on board (probably the chance to buy chocolate frogs etc just like Ron does in the films)  the train will have a few extra special experiences happening in the corridors.

The whole train ride experience will probably last around 60 minutes

Before you start moaning about how long the queue is, remember that this is Universal you’re dealing with! The queue itself will be part of the ‘whole’ experience. From the Kings Cross end we were told you can expect the platform to be busy with hustle and bustle of luggage cars, owls and eager Wizards waiting to board the train.

There will be 2 trains

One of the things we had speculated about here at Orlando Attraction Tickets was ‘will there be more than 1 train?’

Well, the answer to that is yes! There will be 2 trains running simultaneously. Each train will offer very different experience depending on which direction you are travelling in.

 Platform 9 3/4 entrance

Although no specific details were given on how you will enter the platform, from what was implied, we are speculating that Universal could use an optical illusion at the entrance of the platform. As in the film where students of Hogwarts run through a wall, we think that the queue may be positioned in such a way that it gives those waiting in line the illusion that those entering the platform will be passing through a wall.

Authenticity

Universal have gone to great lengths to make sure that the user experience is totally authentic.

Did you know that Universal sent a special team to the UK to research trains? They made sure that not only the look and feel of the train was correct, they even made sure that the ride, sound and even the fabric on the seats matched exactly. They have even taken great care to ensure that black smoke will billow from the train as it makes it journey.

Requirements

A multi-park ticket will be required to ride the Hogwarts Express. We recommend the Universal 2-Park Bonus Ticket or the Universal 3-Park Bonus Ticket

Universal have ensured that this ride is suitable for the whole family so no one will miss out! I for one cannot wait to see this in action. The sheer level of attention to detail by Universal on the train alone will no doubt ensure that the Hogwarts Express, will be a major attraction at both Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure.

Although many people have tried, none have so far succeeded in finding out the exact opening date for Diagon Alley. Universal are stating summer 2014. Here at OAT we reckon sometime in June 2014.

Places To Eat At The Wizarding World Of Harry Potter Diagon Alley

Morning Thrill Seekers,

In anticipation of Friday’s big news regarding the Hogwarts Express we’ve been taking a look at some of the other elements that Universal have confirmed.

Yesterday we took a look at the new shop’s at Diagon Alley, today we’re going to be looking at the places you can pick something up to eat.

Florean Fortescue’s Ice Cream Parlour

Guests looking for something on the sweat side have come to the right place at Diagon Alley. This favourite has long been the number one destination for frozen treats in a variety of interesting and unique flavours like strawberry and peanut butter ice cream and many more…

20120827090535!Florian_fortescue

We’re wondering if Florean’s ice cream will have the same type of impact as Butterbeer had?

Leaky Cauldron

Located at the entrance to Diagon Alley is the Leaky Cauldron. This very British pub is a place where Wizards and Witches can sit down and relax while enjoying a great meal.

Last month we saw a few “leaked” pictures of some of the food you can expect.

leaky cauldronWe understand from previous Universal announcements that the Leaky Cauldron will be aimed at families at will be a 360 degree experience!

Tomorrows post which is embargoed until 5pm will contain some cracking information about the Hogwarts Express, the presentation was so secretive that only one member of Orlando Attraction Tickets was allowed to attend! I’ve been told some of the points and I’m pretty sure you won’t be disappointed.

More Hogwarts Express Details To Be Announced Friday

Afternoon Thrill Seekers,

2014 has always been about The Wizarding World of Harry Potter Diagon Alley, whenever we post about Universal’s latest addition we know it will generate hits to the blog.

So we were delighted to receive by Owl… (I say Owl, it was actually an email) an invitation to a media event being held by Universal expected to give us more details about the Hogwarts Express.

The event is a bit of a secret, so I can’t really tell you to much about it at the moment but what I can guarantee is that on Friday at 17:00 we’ll be able to provide you with some cracking insight in the Hogwarts Express and dare we wish it… an opening date?

A Glimpse At the Food The Leaky Cauldron Will Serve At The Wizarding World Of Harry Potter Diagon Alley

Hi all,

On Friday Tom Schroder, Vice President of Public Relations at Universal Orlando tweeted pictures of his lunch!!

Yep thats right, his lunch… how boring you might think… usually I’d agree but on this occasion is was a special lunch. Some might say a magical lunch! Not me though cos that would be really cheesey 😉

The reason this lunch was of interest was where he had it…

Tweeting “Can you guess what I’m getting to try for lunch today ?” accompanied by this photo;

1977481_763191393692646_1412068036_nTom got the internet buzzing with this very old English menu, words like Diagon Alley, Wizarding and most importantly Leaky Cauldron were flying around like (dare i say it?) broomsticks in a quidditch match (I dared).

The menu looks delicious and just how you’d imagine a wizards meal to look. Hats off again to Universal who always set the bar high when it comes to attention to detail.

Tom wasn’t finished though;

1898060_763191380359314_223825267_nFor those with a sweet tooth, Tom gave us a mouthwatering look at the puddings. As one of our facebook friends put it

I gained about 4lbs just looking at that! Yum

Universal still haven’t confirmed the exact date Diagon Alley will open but we’re still guessing at an ambitious late June date.

VIDEO: Universal’s “A Celebration of Harry Potter” Weekend

Hey Thrill Seekers,

2014 is set to be a big year for Universal Orlando, the launch of Diagon Alley is the topic for many a blog and conversation. Universal are of course heavily invested in the Wizarding World so much so that they have an entire weekend dedicated to the speccy magician.

Below is a video highlights package of this years “A Celebration of Harry Potter” which took place over the 24th, 25th and 26th January.

I love the idea of a Potter weekend and I’m sure as popularity grows so will the event. From the webcast and the video above I think Matthew Lewis who played Neville Longbottom is excellent value, always passionate and well spoken.

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter Diagon Alley is set to open this summer (we’re guessing 18th June) and will feature a working Hogwarts Express and a new ride called Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts. At present you can purchase a 2 Park Universal Bonus Ticket from Orlando Attraction Tickets for £114.00 per adult.

Universal Release 4th Wizarding World Of Harry Potter Diagonal Alley Trailer

Hey Thrill Seekers,

Two days before the highly anticipated Webcast where we expect to learn a lot more about Diagonal Alley, Universal have released their 4th video clip promoting this years must see attraction.

The trailer, “Prepare to go” doesn’t give much away officially but does offer a sense of what we can expect!

By featuring aspects of the film I think we can safely assume it will stick to this brief… But we’ll hopefully know for sure on Thursday.
