Hey Thrill Seekers,
Universal Orlando has confirmed that a brand-new indoor roller coaster is coming to Universal Epic Universe, with the exciting new attraction set to become part of the monster-filled Dark Universe.
The announcement, made on 5 November 2026, confirms that construction is already underway, with the new ride promising an all-new story inspired by Universal’s legendary collection of classic movie monsters.
Although we don’t yet have a ride name, opening date or details of exactly what guests can expect, this is another major development for Universal’s newest theme park and one that will give visitors even more reason to put Epic Universe on their Orlando holiday wish list.
🎢 A New Indoor Coaster Coming to Dark Universe
The new roller coaster will be located in Dark Universe, one of the five immersive worlds at Universal Epic Universe.
It will sit next to the hugely impressive Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment, which has quickly established itself as one of the park’s standout attractions.
Universal has confirmed that the new coaster will feature an entirely new storyline inspired by the Universal Monsters franchise, bringing another chapter of classic horror to life in the mysterious village of Darkmoor.
Construction is already underway, although Universal has been keeping further details firmly under wraps.
For now, we know that the attraction will be an indoor roller coaster, but exactly how it will operate, which monsters will feature and what sort of experience guests can expect remain a mystery.
🧟 What is Dark Universe?
For anyone who hasn’t visited Epic Universe yet, Dark Universe is one of the park’s most atmospheric themed worlds.
Inspired by Universal’s classic horror films, the land transports visitors to the mysterious village of Darkmoor, where the experiments of Dr Victoria Frankenstein have unleashed a collection of terrifying creatures.
The attention to detail is fantastic, with gothic architecture, eerie streets, unusual characters and plenty of nods to Universal’s horror-film history.
There are currently two attractions in Dark Universe:
Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment
This is the land’s headline attraction and one of the most ambitious rides at Epic Universe.
Guests venture inside Frankenstein Manor, where Dr Victoria Frankenstein’s latest experiment goes horribly wrong.
The attraction features an impressive collection of lifelike animatronic monsters, including Dracula, the Wolf Man, the Creature from the Black Lagoon and the Phantom of the Opera.
Combining advanced ride technology, detailed environments and some seriously impressive special effects, it is a must-do attraction for anyone visiting Epic Universe.
Curse of the Werewolf
If you prefer something a little more traditional, Curse of the Werewolf is an outdoor spinning roller coaster that takes guests on a journey through the woods surrounding Darkmoor.
Inspired by Universal’s classic Wolf Man mythology, the ride offers a family-friendly coaster experience with plenty of twists and turns.
The new indoor coaster will become the third attraction in Dark Universe, giving the land an even stronger collection of experiences.
👀 Which Universal Monsters Could Feature in the New Ride?
This is where things get particularly interesting.
Universal has confirmed that the new attraction will be inspired by its Universal Monsters franchise, but hasn’t revealed which characters will feature in the storyline.
There are plenty of possibilities.
Could we see Dracula take centre stage? Perhaps the Bride of Frankenstein will finally get her own headline attraction? Or could Universal bring the Creature from the Black Lagoon into a completely new experience?
One thing we do know is that Universal has a huge collection of classic horror characters to work with.
The indoor setting also opens up some exciting possibilities. Rather than relying on an outdoor coaster layout, Universal can create a completely controlled environment, using lighting, sound, atmospheric effects and elaborate scenery to build a much more immersive experience.
Imagine racing through a dark castle, escaping a monster’s laboratory or finding yourself caught up in one of Dr Frankenstein’s experiments.
Of course, that’s purely speculation at this stage, but the potential is enormous.
🏗️ When Will the New Epic Universe Roller Coaster Open?
Unfortunately, anyone hoping to experience the new attraction on an upcoming Orlando holiday will need to be patient.
Universal has confirmed that construction is already underway, but the company has only indicated that the ride will open in the years ahead.
There is currently no confirmed opening date or even an opening year.
This means that visitors planning trips for 2027 should not assume the new coaster will be available during their holiday.
We will keep this article updated as Universal releases more information about the attraction, including its name, storyline and expected opening date.
🌎 Epic Universe is Already Expanding
One of the most interesting aspects of today’s announcement is just how quickly Universal is looking to expand Epic Universe.
The park only officially opened in May 2025, yet Universal is already moving ahead with another major attraction.
Epic Universe launched with five themed worlds:
- Celestial Park
- https://www.attraction-tickets.info/ministry-of-magic-epic-universe-2026-guide/The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic
- Super Nintendo World
- How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk
- Dark Universe
Each world offers something very different, from the magical streets of Wizarding Paris to the colourful Mushroom Kingdom and the incredible Isle of Berk.
Adding another major roller coaster to Dark Universe will help strengthen the park’s attraction line-up and give returning visitors another reason to come back.
It also demonstrates that Universal’s investment in Epic Universe isn’t stopping with the park’s initial opening.
