Interview With Karl Hendrie Before He Visits Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights

Hi all,

Many apologies for the lack of posts for the last 2 weeks, its been a mixture of writers block and a very busy September.HalHN23

As we’ve reported on previously, Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights is somewhat of a mainstay in the USA, winning the title of Best Horror Nights Attraction numerous times.

For Orlando Attraction Tickets its been our first year selling the exclusive passes and we’ve thoroughly enjoyed submerging ourselves in it, from meeting John Landis to sitting up until midnight U.S. time to be one of the first to view the house reveal details.

As we saw from the first weekends photos Halloween Horror Nights is in full swing and the reviews I’ve been seeing around the internet have been very positive especially for An American Werewolf in London and Cabin in the Woods. Well on the 10/10/13 one of our own, CTO Karl Hendrie, is off to experience the Horrors themselves and I got 10 minutes sit down with him and talk about what he’s expecting.

ME: Hi Karl, thanks very much for sparing the time for a quick chat for the blog, its much appreciated as I know how busy you are at the moment. So to kick off, are you a fan of the Horror genre?

KARL: To be perfectly honest I am not really a fan of the ‘Horror genre’ as such. If I were going to watch a movie for instance, Horror, would be my last choice.

ME: What are you expecting from HHN?

KARL: I have heard some amazing things about HHN and also read some of the spectacular plans for this years HHN at attraction-tickets.info. But I guess the real insight came when we were invited by Universal to a screening of An American Werewolf in London where there was a Q&A with the HHN Creative Director and also the Director of the film An American Werewolf in London, John Landis – We really got an amazing insight into the detail, time, money, effort and creative extended to HHN, I expect this year will be one of Universal’s best so far.

ME: Do you think you’ll scream?

KARL: I think that’s a strong possibility.

ME: After reading about all the different houses, which houses are you, scared of the most, excited about the most and feel you might not be able to do?

KARL: Scared of the most; The Walking Dead – I love the TV series and I have heard that this particular part of HHN is amazing as there are tons of zombies staggering through the mist and fog giving this an amazing element of realism.

Excited about the most; The American Werewolf in London. Because of the insights from John Landis and the fact that Universal have tried to stay true to its original chilling content i’m really interested to see the finished article!

Feel you might not be able to do; Luckily for me I will be attending with a group of people so I guess there will be some safety in numbers – However, if I was to do this on my own i’d probably bottle a couple of them

ME: Who would be your idea HHN companion?

KARL: Probably someone that doesn’t scare to easily. I fully expect to come away from HHN with perforated ear drums on account of all the screaming.

ME: If you could design your own house which Horror film would it be based on?

KARL: When I was a kid there were 2 films that really scared the brown stuff out of me. The first was The Amityville Horror. As this film was situated in a house it would fit in nicely with the format at HHN. Its your classic family move into a haunted house scenario. The second would be The Shining. This has everything…a possessed father, a psychotic son and little girl ghosts…no one likes little girl ghosts!

ME: Apart from HHN what other parts of Universal are you looking forward to seeing?

KARL: I’d really like to see Bill and Ted’s Excellent Halloween Adventure. I am a big fan of the films so I think that would be fun. I am also itching to get to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter – especially as the new expansion is under way I’d like to have a little snoop around to see how they are getting on.

Once again a big thanks to Karl for taking the time to speak to me, he’ll also be guest writing a blog sometime next week to let us know how he got on…
Smiles included…
Jamie
