Hey Thrill Seekers,

I don’t know about you but when I’m abroad I like to try and emerge myself in the local customs and culture. While in Venice recently I tried my very best to order everything in Italian, although it was terrible and at times wildly incorrect the locals seemed to appreciate the effort.

So when in Orlando I also like to dive in to the local culture. Obviously the language isn’t an issue as I’m almost fluent in English and the food is pretty similar, I also love a good roller coaster so fit in quite well there. So where can I sample a bit of Orlando?

With our Universal 2 park bonus ticket as well as entry into Universal’s Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios you also get free entry into CityWalk. CityWalk is a collection of shops, restaurants and a nightclub found just outside the parks. It has a really good vibe about it and in my opinion is a bit cooler than downtown Disney.

During one of our visits here I happened to mention out loud that it was a shame there wasn’t something available that was truly Orlando apart from all the cool rides and attractions. My guide stopped in his tracks….

Oh you want something to remember Orlando by hey!?

I shrugged and nodded. He beckoned for us to follow him and off we went to Pat O’Briens home of the dueling pianos!!!

dueling pianosI’d seen dueling pianos before in London, yeah its impressive and great to watch but not distinctly Orlando. Our guide told us this wasn’t what he’d brought us here for…

You’re here for a Hurricane!

The Hurricane is a cocktail, the exact ingredients seemed to change depending upon who I spoke too but what they all agreed on was that its strong. 4 oz. of Pat O’Brien’s® Hurricane Rum blended with 4 oz. of Pat O’Brien’s® Hurricane Mix. Rumoured to include 12 shots of various spirit mostly rum I guess its called a Hurricane because of the mess it leaves behind. 🙂

hurricane Our guide told us that the drinks origins were really New Orleans but he assured us that a few of these and The Hurricane would always remind us of our Orlando trip… and he was totally right.

Smiles included…

Jamie
