Hey Thrill Seekers,
When Bob Iger, Walt Disney’s Co. Chief speaks, generally people listen but when he talks about Star Wars everybody listens!
Yesterday speaking to Variety, Bob was asked about how Disney were going to use Star Wars within their parks. Disney famously purchased Lucas Films which included the rights to Star Wars for $4 billion in 2012 but have yet to add anything significant to their Theme Parks.
Mr Iger stated;
There will be a much larger ‘Star Wars’ presence in our parks globally, but we want to do this big, which takes time, and to do it right.
This is a significant statement from Iger regarding how seriously and protective they are of the brand, it would have been very easy to steam headfirst in to dedicated Star Wars Land based solely on the previous films but Disney have and are taking their time.
As with all projects including Avatar Land at Animal Kingdom which is said to be in the works, Disney’s Imagineers have full scope to bring these ip’s to life. Iger confirmed that they decided to hold back until Abrams had finished episode 8.
We couldn’t tell them what was new, I slowed it all down so what we come forward with will have a blend of the past, present and maybe the future. Now we have a sense of what’s in ‘Star Wars 8,’ and what some of the standalone films will have in them.
More details of what we can expect will probably coincide with the release of the new film due out next year… So not too long to wait.
Smiles included…
Jamie
