Hey Thrill Seekers,
IP Series
This week we’ve been looking at Intellectual Properties (IP’s) and which ones we believe would make excellent additions to the Orlando theme park landscape. So far we’ve looked at Lord of the Rings Assassin’s Creed Stranger Things and Star Trek. Today we’re heading to the wonderful world of Oz.
In IP terms this is pretty much a closed door as Wicked was produced by Universal Pictures it will come as no surprise that Universal Parks has the rights to Wicked. They’ve already used the franchise in the form of Wicked: The Experience at Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Orlando Resort, with props, costumes, meet-and-greets and themed merchandise but what if they were to expand it to a full land.
THE WORLD OF OZ: WICKED – A THEME PARK LAND IMMERSION
Imagine stepping into a world that takes you beyond the yellow brick road — a place where magic pulses through every corner, enchanted forests whisper secrets, and beloved characters from Wicked spring to life all around you.
Welcome to The World of Oz: Wicked, a fully immersive theme park land where guests don their emerald greens or dazzling pinks and embark on an unforgettable journey through the iconic locales of the Wicked film franchise.
Land Overview — A Magical Gateway Into Oz
From the moment you approach the entrance, you’ll feel the shift from the ordinary to the extraordinary:
- A grand archway inspired by the Emerald City skyline marks your entry — emerald spires glimmer and the Yellow Brick Road unfurls at your feet.
- Lush landscaping and whimsical art direction echo the vibrant, fairy-tale aesthetics of Oz, informed by the film’s spectacular world-building and set design.
Just like the world-building seen in existing Wicked park experiences from Universal, guests will feel transported into an ozmopolitan realm where every corner tells a story.
Signature Attractions & Rides
Defying Gravity – Broomstick Flight Coaster
The flagship ride of the land, this high-flying, thrilling coaster puts you right on a broomstick alongside Elphaba as she soars above Oz. Inspired by ideas from film director Jon M. Chu’s unrealised theme ride concepts, you’ll twist, dive, and experience near-weightlessness — truly defying gravity.
Shiz University Exploratory Ride
A whimsical family-friendly dark ride that invites guests to explore the sprawling halls and enchanted gardens of Shiz. Audio-animatronics, magical effects, and interactive storytelling bring life to key moments from Glinda and Elphaba’s early story.
Emerald City Discovery Dark Ride
Cruise through the dazzling Emerald City inside a glimmering ‘bubble carriage,’ enjoying spectacular set pieces and musical moments echoing the heart and soul of Oz’s capital.
Flying Monkey Chase
A medium-thrill suspended coaster where riders are swept into a mischievous chase through the forest canopy — dodging (friendly) flying monkeys and darting through misty treetops.
Dining, Snacks & Magical Eats
Food in Oz is just as whimsical as its people:
Glinda’s Fizzy Potions & Mocktails
Colorful, sweet concoctions inspired by the bubbly personality of the Good Witch — perfect for kids and adults alike.
Shiz Soho Cafeteria
Step into the film version of the Shiz student dining hall for hearty, magical fare, with themed eats like “Emerald Garden Bowls” and “Yellow Brick Road Tots.”
Wizards’ Elixirs & Treats Cart
Grab wicked sweet and refreshing iced shakes and snacks, similar to the themed offerings already celebrated at Universal parks’ seasonal experiences.
Dining District & Retail Streets
Oz’s Ozmopolitan Quarter is lined with richly themed shops and charming street vendors:
MinaLima Curios & Curiosities – Art and collectibles inspired by the graphic world and icons of Wicked.
Emerald City Emporium – Exclusive props, jewellery, apparel, and character merchandise.
Witch’s Wardrobe Boutique – Dress up like your favourite witch or wizard, with capes, hats, wands, and more!
Live Shows & Entertainment
Defying Gravity Stage Show
A Broadway-style performance featuring live vocals and dazzling effects — telling the core emotional journey of Elphaba and Glinda through song and spectacle.
Street Performers Along the Yellow Brick Road
Musicians and aerial performers bring spontaneous magic to the streets, with moments that feel straight out of Oz.
Character Encounters
Meet and interact with the world’s most iconic Oz personalities:
Elphaba the Wicked Witch
Glinda the Good Witch
The Wizard of Oz
Fiyero and Nessa Rose
…and even a few mischievous Flying Monkeys!
Just like how Universal’s parks have been featuring character meet-and-greets in their Wicked: The Experience events, this land would bring those characters into everyday, interactive guest experiences.
Why This Land Works
The Wicked films have recent cinematic momentum and a passionate global fan base — plus Universal has already dipped into themed retail and immersive experiences based on the franchise.
This land isn’t just a collection of rides — it’s a storytelling environment that celebrates the magic, heart, and thematic depth of Oz.
Would you love to leave Kansas and visit Oz at one of the parks, if so which park?
Smiles included…
Jamie
