Hey Thrill Seekers,

Regular visitors to the Orlando Attraction Tickets website will have noticed a change yesterday. The nerds at OAT HQ have been busy little bee’s for the past 6 months not only building from scratch our first iPhone app but also looking at updating the main OAT website.

As the market leader in innovation when it comes to theme park resellers our guys are always under a bit of pressure to continue to push the boundaries of user ability and design.

Their remit for this version was to create a beautiful, easy to use site which is responsive on desktop and mobile. I think they’ve done it.

I managed to catch up with Karl Hendrie CTO at Orlando Attraction Tickets to discuss the redesign.

Jamie – What prompted the redesign?

Karl – Its not a case of being prompted. We never stop looking at ways of improving the website and the overall user experience. My team and I are always looking at new trends, ecommerce market leaders and brainstorming ideas, hoping to pick up or see something that we believe will benefit us and the user.

Jamie – How would you describe the alterations on OAT?

Karl – From the last version of the site we’ve removed all of the background shading, we’ve made the design a lot flatter so that it really pop’s on mobiles and tablets. We’ve tried to include more inspirational photo’s, theme parks are visually very appealing and using them is a no brainer. I also spent a lot of time looking in to the science of placing data in a way our users generally read pages making sure the most important information was prominent.

Jamie – What is the day like of a new launch?

Karl – Hectic. We run hundreds of test on the site before we launch it, we are always 100% sure that every bug has been ironed out before going live however from test environment to live environment you can bet something changes. So the first 4 hours is spent frantically making sure all the bugs are ironed out. This launch was surprisingly care free.

Jamie – Who inspires you?

Karl – I read a lot of blogs regarding the future of design and the internet. I like to be inspired by the big boys to. From the travel sector I really like the airbnb website and the new cheap flights redesign is also interesting. Outside of Travel I like the science behind Amazon’s website and have a soft spot for the firebox website.

Jamie – Can you tell us about your next project?

Karl – Actually I’m just finishing the first update for the Orlando Attraction Tickets app, we got some great user feedback which we were really keen to put into practise immediately we’re hoping to roll that out in the next couple of weeks.

I’d like to thank Karl for taking the time to talk to us. Take a look at the new Orlando Attraction Tickets website and let us know what you think below.

Smiles included…
