Hey Thrill Seekers,
We knew it was on the horizon and now we have confirmation that Dragon Challenge at Universal’s Islands of Adventure will indeed be closing to make way for a brand new coaster!!!
This afternoon Universal confirmed via their blog that brand new thrill ride will take you deeper into J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World, where you will be able to encounter some of your favorite characters and creatures.
Universal stated that the new ride will be
unlike anything we’ve ever done before and it will be fun for the entire family.
The new attraction will be one of the most highly-themed coaster experiences Universal have ever created. It will combine a new level of storytelling with an action-packed adventure…and a few surprises along the way.
Universal have enlisted the help of their award-winning Creative team to once again collaborate with Warner Bros. and the production design team from the Harry Potter films to bring this new coaster experience to life.
This ride is going to redefine the category and transport you to thrilling places, drawing you into even more exciting adventures within the wizarding world. It’s going to be the perfect addition to Hogsmeade.
Universal also confirm that they will be permanently closing Dragon Challenge on September 5 to make way for this all-new ride. The last day of operation will be Monday, September 4.
Dragon’s Challenge started life as Duelling Dragons in 1999 and was known for the ride trains being dispatched simultaneously, providing three near-miss encounters along the courses. When the Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Hogsmeade opened in 2010 the ride changed name to Dragon’s Challenge and the duelling element was removed.
We believe the new ride (yet to be named) is scheduled to open in the Summer 2019.
Smiles included…
Jamie
