Interview With Nichola Parr – SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment

Good morning Thrill Seekers,

Today’s post continues our series of interviews with members of theBusch_Gardens_Tampa_logo theme park industry, to date we’ve posted interviews with Kelly Morris and Gavin Boswell both from Orlando Attraction Tickets and Nigel McShine-Jones of LEGOLAND Florida.

Nichola Parr, Sales Manager at SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment came down to our offices last week and I managed to grab a bit of time with her to talk about 2013 and 2014. Nichola is one of our favourites in the theme park industry, bubbly, friendly and knowledgeable it was a real pleasure to sit down and speak with her, especially as her time is very scarce, straight after the interview she was off to Dublin for a trade show.

Name: Nichola Parr

Who do you work for?: SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment

What was 2013 like?: 2013 was a good year for SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment. We have seen strong performance for the Florida parks out of the UK and just recently the US reported record 4th quarter attendance across all of all parks. We opened Antarctica: Empire of the Penguin back in May and in June we released details of Falcons Fury at Busch Gardens and then just recently in November we confirmed the new ride set to open at Aquatica this spring – Ihu’s Breakaway Falls. So yeah there’s been a lot going on this year.

Your highlight of 2013?: Getting to see Antarctica: Empire of the Penguin when I escorted a trip for travel agents to Orlando in December. There were a lot of Orlando first timers on that trip too and it’s always great to see people react to our parks and the attractions for the first time. Makes you very proud!

Your Best Park 2013?: Busch Gardens has always been one of my favourite parks as I’m a big coaster and thrill ride fan. Also because it’s such a huge park, every time you go you tend to find something new to experience which has always been there, but you just haven’t seen or done it before.

Your Best Attraction 2013?: Being a coaster fan I’d have to say Manta at SeaWorld because there’s nothing else quite like it in Florida. And then SheiKra at Busch Gardens. Front row far left seat…..try it and you’ll know why.

In regards to Theme Parks, what are you most looking forward to in 2014?: There’s so much happening in Florida next year across all the theme parks but I think the most extreme will be the new drop tower at Busch Gardens – Falcon’s Fury, even the construction photos are terrifying!

Make a 2014 prediction…: 2014 will be the year of heights and lots of celebrations for the parks, with Busch Gardens and Aquatica set to open new big attractions and with SeaWorld’s 50th anniversary, so we are expecting to see another strong year. We have a great ticket offer available too, our 3-Park ticket is the same price as our 2-Park ticket throughout 2014 so it makes sense for anyone travelling out to Florida to go see all our parks. With the 50th Anniversary celebrations kicking off this Spring at SeaWorld there is going to be something new to see at all the parks included within that ticket.

I’d like to thank Nichola for taking the time to answer my questions. Reading back through I thought it was a great interview with some excellent and full answers.

I can wait to visit Busch Gardens Tampa and ride Falcon’s Fury, like Nic said “even the construction photos are terrifying!”

Interview With Kelly Morris – Orlando Attraction Tickets

Hey Thrill Seekers,

Today marks the start of a few interviews I’ve had with people within the oat-smile-greentheme park industry regarding their thoughts for 2013 and views on what 2014 will bring.

My first victim, oops, I mean interviewee is Kelly Morris. Kelly works for us here at Orlando Attraction Tickets in our customer care department.

Name: Kelly Morris

Position: Customer Service Agent

What was 2013 like?: From a customer service prospective 2013 was very good with virtually no issues. The staff at the parks must be working very hard to please our customer’s. As we continue to offer real gate ready tickets customers actual interaction with our suppliers staff is very minimal.

As a company we’ve grown massively and taken on a lot of new staff, as one of the veterans here (Kelly has been with us for 6 years) I’m able to take on a trainer role which I’ve enjoyed immensely.

Your highlight of 2013?: I was lucky enough to travel to Orlando this year and swim with Dolphins at Discovery Cove, this is something I’ve wanted to do since I was a little girl and so to fulfil this ambition is something I will never forget. Plus I have the pictures to prove it.

Your Best Park 2013?: Without a doubt Discovery Cove. It really is the most relaxing park in Orlando and I can’t rate it highly enough. Oh and not only that…. the booze is included within the price of your ticket. 🙂

Your Best Attraction 2013?: I apologise for repeating myself but Discovery Cove wins again for me. Although you don’t have to swim with the dolphins to enjoy Discovery Cove it really is an amazing experience.

In regards to Theme Parks, what are you most looking forward to in 2014?: Being a bit of a Water ride fanatic (people call me a water baby) I’m looking forward to the new ride, Ihu’s Breakaway Falls opening at SeaWorld’s Aquatica. It promises to be the tallest multi person drop slide in Florida…

Make a 2014 prediction…: With all the new things happening – we will be busier than ever. All I have to say to that is “bring it on”.

Many thanks to Kelly for providing us with this interview, what a shame she didn’t mention her trip to Discovery Cove ;-).

SeaWorld Orlando’s 2013 Reviews

Afternoon Thrill Seekers,

This week I’ve been posting about the final positionings of our suppliers parks and attractions as voted for by you guys, the Orlando Attraction Tickets customer. Check out Universal’s and Disney’s results.

We gather this information via our #Discover pages whose content is supplied by our customers, who are asked to review the parks after their holiday has ended.

Today’s reviews and votes are for SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment we’ll check back here again in 2015 to see how they’ve altered.

SeaWorld Orlando

discover seaworldAquatica

discover aquatica

Busch Gardens Tampa

discover busch gardens

Discovery Cove

discover discovery cove

So one of my favourites came up top, Cheetah Hunt at Busch Gardens Tampa received 26 votes but SeaWorld Orlando received the most amount of reviews with 66.

This year both Aquatica and Busch Gardens are set to unveil new attractions which we think may just shoot up the rankings. Aquatica’s new attraction is a multi person drop slide called Ihu’s Breakaway Falls and Busch Gardens Tampa are set to open Falcon’s Fury a 300ft plus face first drop ride!!!

So 2014 looks set to be a strong year for Orlando Theme Parks, are you ready for the thrills?

I’m Off To Orlando On Friday! Yeeeey!!

Hi Thrill Seekers,

I have been lucky enough to have been selected to go on a FAM tripseaworld_kraken to Orlando this Friday 22nd November. A FAM trip, short for familiarisation, is one of the perks of my job, the idea behind it is quite straightforward. How can you successful sell a product if you’ve never experienced it?

This FAM trip will be hosted by SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment, giving me the opportunity to visit 4 amazing parks; SeaWorld, Aquatica, Busch Gardens and Discovery Cove! We will be staying at the Renaissance Hotel in Orlando.

Today I received a pack containing lots of SeaWorld goodies, including a cute dolphin neck pillow for the long flight and a fan to keep us cool in the sun (cannot wait). It also included an itinerary of trip, which got me even more excited..which I didn’t think possible!

The first park we will be visiting is SeaWorld, which is just across the road from our hotel. I’m a massive fan of big rollercoasters and cannot wait to ride the Kraken! It’s a floorless coaster and you go upside down 7 times.

The next day we’ll be heading to Discovery Cove. I am particularly excited about this day as we’ll get the chance to swim with the dolphins, which I’m told is an unforgettable experience!

The following day we’ll be heading out to Tampa to visit Busch Gardens. Again, being a roller coaster fanatic I am really looking forward to hitting the 7 thrilling roller coasters! I also anticipate a few up close encounters with the 2’000 exotic animals that roam the naturalistic habitats at the park.

Our final day will be spent at Aquatica, SeaWorld’s waterpark. Aquatica didn’t exist last time I visited Orlando, many years ago so I cannot wait to cool off and see what this park has to offer!

I will write another post when I return and let you know my favourite rides and attractions.

Orlando Attraction Tickets Now Displays Live Discovery Cove Availability

Afternoon Thrill Seekers,

We try our best here at Orlando Attraction Tickets to make the booking experience as smooth and as enjoyable as possible. As we like to  say here, we want you to be smiling when you make the booking, smiling when the tickets are delivered and smiling when you use them. I believe, on the whole we have got this pretty much spot on, the reviews our customers leave support this.

However there was one aspect we weren’t happy with, and that was the very long winded way we had to book Discovery Cove, before today, when a Discovery Cove request came in to our offices it would take us a maximum of 72 hours to confirm availability, this structure was no good for anyone, it wasn’t great for the customer who had to wait for us to confirm their date was booked (or not), it wasn’t great for us as it involved quite a bit of administration and it wasn’t great for Discovery Cove, I imagine having us continually on the phone nagging isn’t much fun. 🙂

So today I’m delighted to announce that with the help of Discovery Cove and quite a bit of cash, we have been able to create a system to directly link to their itinerary to offer instant availability.

Here’s how it works

Visit our Discovery Cove dedicated pages as usual, you can find these either via the homepage image adverts, via the drop down menu or search “Discovery Cove” using the search facility.

You will note the new design for the page.

DC 1

First thing you’ll need to do is select which package you’re interested in, the basic Discovery Cove package includes entry into Discovery Cove plus 14 consecutive days entry into SeaWorld and Aquatica. The Discovery Cove Ultimate Package includes the same plus 14 days consecutive entry in to Busch Gardens Tampa.

Once you’ve done this, you then enter the amount of swimmers,  non swimmer and infants you require for your visit.

dc 2

Then finally we ask you to select the month and year you’re looking to visit Discovery Cove, hit the check availability button and the system will begin its search, this can take up to 30 seconds.

dc 3

The system will then display availability for the whole month based upon your party size, you can now either select a date from the calendar or click to search the next month. When you select your day it will be highlighted in blue and the Total package price will display the full costing of your visit. You can then continue to book Discovery Cove in the usual way.

We are very excited about this and hope our customers will also enjoy the benefits. Remember Discovery Cove sells out extremely quickly, just take a look at August and September of this year!

If you have any comments or idea’s to improve the service please do not hesitate to comment below.

Ever Wondered How Many Calories You Burn Visiting Busch Gardens Tampa?

Morning Thrill Seekers,

Burning calories has never been so much fun! I burnt over 1000 calories at Busch Gardens!Busch_Gardens_Tampa_logo

I know what you’re thinking, in order to burn over 1000 calories you should be running 10 miles or hiking up a huge hill or spending the day clearing out the loft (yes, its on my list of things to do too!) However, there is a better way!

Here at Orlando Attraction Tickets we just love interesting theme park data. So, on the 10th of June, as an experiment, we thought it would be interesting to find out just how many calories you could burn on an average day at a Florida theme park. Luckily for me I was spending a little time in Florida courtesy of our friends at SeaWorld Parks and Entertainments. On this particular day I was scheduled to be at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay.

So, 10 am I arrive at Busch Gardens. I am going to be using my Nike Fuel Band to record my daily steps and calorie burn. Here’s how my day panned out, ride by ride;

1) Cheetah Hunt – Roller Coaster

Thrill seekers take note. One of the best roller coasters in Florida. So fast, and well worth the wait! This triple launch coaster carries riders high above the park and then races down along the ground through a rocky gorge. At a length of 4,400 feet, it is the park’s longest thrill rides.

2) Iceploration – Show

As it was such a hot day, ducking out of the heat for a show seemed like perfect timing. Iceploration is an amazing show with some exceptionally talented cast members. This 30-minute show combines some of the most amazing aspects of the park’s rich entertainment history, including world-class ice skaters, larger-than-life puppets, amazing costumes, gymnasts, original music and even real animal stars.

Iceploration

3) Serengeti Safari

The closets you’ll get to a real life Safari experience. The Serengeti Safari is set in 65 acre recreation of life on the home of the last great migration on earth. You’ll meet familiar favourites like zebras, giraffes and ostriches while learning about other exotic animal species. Make sure your camera is handy as you’ll grab some amazing pictures.

Break for lunch at the Zambia Smokehouse – if you like your ribs, this place is for you!

4) SheiKra – Roller Coaster

I love this ride! Climb 200 feet to the edge of a 90-degree drop that inches you mercilessly over the edge—and stops! Then surrender to speed as you dive straight down into a 70 mph coaster whirlwind with an Immelmann loop, a second dive into an underground tunnel and a splashdown finale that drenches SheiKra fans queuing up to catch their own piece of the fun.

5) Animals

Take some time to view some of the amazing animal enclosures. I checked out the meerkats, Gorillas, Lions and elephants. I think it’s probably quite easy to fill up a whole day taking a lazy stroll round the park checking out the wildlife. You’ll get some stunning pictures too so make sure you have your camera handy!

busch animals

6) Congo River Rapids – Water Ride

The best way to cool off on a hot day? head straight to the water rides of course and Congo River Rapids does not disappoint. Climb aboard for an exciting white water rafting expedition that will send you twirling down this raging river, where thrilling plunges, looming waterfalls and a mysterious water cave are just a few of the surprises it holds. Be warned – you will get wet!

Congo River Rapids - Water Ride
So, there you have it. I actually burnt 1063 calories and took 14059 steps! But you know the most amazing thing is that it didn’t feel like I’d been exercising. I guess its all relative eh?

Just for the record, I suppose you should consider the fact that we are all different and we all burn calories at different rates. However, the next time you are at Busch Gardens and you suddenly fancy a nice cold ice cream, remember, you probably earned it 😉

Here is the information you’ll need if you plan on visiting Busch Gardens;

Busch Gardens is included within the following tickets

Top Tip: Busch Gardens offers FREE transport from Orlando. Check out the following post for more details: How to use the free shuttle bus service to Busch Gardens Tampa Bay

Car Rental: Alternatively for those that like to make their own way to the parks you can find cheap Florida car hire via our partner website usrentacar.co.uk

There’s more to Discovery Cove than a Dolphin swim!

So you really wanted to go to Discovery Cove and swim with the Dolphins but you have left it a little too late and now all the Dolphin swims are sold out! So what now? well, my advice is go to Discovery Cove anyway. There is far more to Discovery Cove than just the swim with the dolphin. In my humble opinion this park could be one of the most underrated in terms of ‘stuff to do’

The Dolphin swims are, of course, a once in a life time thing but remember that this will only last 45 minutes. The rest of the day you would be enjoying the other amazing features of Discovery Cove.

Just check out some of the other exciting things on offer;

This really is exciting. The grand reef is home to thousands of tropical fish, from the colorful wrasses to huge spotted eagle rays. You have the chance to snorkel though their amazing habitat as you explore the rock formations that are their home as well as seeing giant rays buried in the sand below. For me, this was one to the biggest treats. Having never snorkeled before you soon get the hang of it. You’re soon exploring everything and the feeling of being up close with some amazing species of fish really is quite breathtaking. Snorkels are provided free of charge!

You’ll wade, wonder, and float in the water-filled trails.
