SeaWorld and Busch Gardens Facts

  • SeaWorld’s animal care staff feeds roughly 400,000 pounds of Romaine lettuce related to the successful rescue and rehabilitation manatee program.
  • SeaWorld receives a truckload with approximately 20-30 thousand pounds of fish every Wednesday morning.  The variety of restaurant-quality fish includes: mackerel, squid, herring, white bait, silversides, sardines, krill, capelin, clams, shrimp and salmon.
  • Once the fish is thawed it is kept on ice and must be fed out within a 24-hour period. The typical grocery store keeps fish on ice for up to a week or 10 days so we’re not joking when we say it’s fresh!
  • SeaWorld feeds out approximately 4,000 pounds of fish every day, 1,000 of which is fed to the killer whales.
  • The five Asian elephants at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay each eat 250-300 pounds of food daily. That includes 1 1/2-2 bales of hay, 5 gallons of a special elephant diet, 80 pounds of fresh fruit and vegetables, plenty of browse, including oak branches, banana trees, palm fronds, bamboo, sugarcane or hibiscus, and occasionally some sweet feed, such as popcorn, Jell-O, Gatorade, popsicles and even Skittles. Some food even gets a schmear of peanut butter, molasses or honey. Whew!
  • The Bengal tigers at Busch Gardens eat upward of 8 pounds of meat each day. In summer months, the tigers enjoy cool blood popsicles, wasting no part of their daily diet.

Discovery Cove Announces New Grand Reef

Discovery Cove have today announced the building of their Grand Reef expected to be opened in June 2011, the new reef will combine a white-sand beach, palm-lined island and underwater grottos filled with moray eels, reef sharks and schools of other tropical fish. Additions to the premium theme park will range from snorkeling with eagle rays to crossing a rope bridge over a shark-filled lagoon.

But the most significant addition will be an underwater walking tour that has been dubbed “SeaVenture,” in which guests will be able to walk along submerged paths while breathing through hoses that rise to the surface. The experience will include views of lion fish and sharks through panoramic windows.

Theme Parks To Make Major Announcements

attraction tickets .info is eagerly awaiting announcements today from two Florida heavyweight theme parks.

Busch Gardens and SeaWorld are both expected to announce additions to their arsenal in a joint press conference in London and Orlando.

www.attraction-tickets.info believes Busch Gardens will officially announce the launch date of their new coaster believed to be called Cheetaka.

We also believe that SeaWorld owned Discovery Cove will announce the construction of a new coral or swimming area, to be positioned just to the right of where the dolphin swim takes place…

All of these announcements come on the back of some very interesting news from the Baker Leisure Group who have stated their intention to build a Orlando Thrill Park, the rumored park is billed as 78 acres of roller coasters — some so high an FAA waiver would be required for guests to ride them!! hmmm
